poem of the day July 31

“Is it really gone?”
Before asked After
“Will it really happen?”
After asked Before
Both were sitting
in fretting minds
unable to touch
each other
Always Separated
by the never waiting Present
moving forth each moment
without a care for either
No matter how hard they tried
Before and After could not stop
their thoughts of past and future
Forever influencing mortal souls
trying to live in the ever present

poem of the day July 30

A small slip of a moon
before the dawn
reminds me of my mother
like a smile from heaven
just for me
shining through
the window
her light of eternity

poem of the day July 29

Warm waves
a friendly hand
The support you get
is long and wet
Allowing you to surf
into the destiny
of your desire
But be aware
of your own feet
They may hold you back
from completing this feat

poem of the day July 28

The old photograph
of the GI kissing his girl
captures a glimpse of time
frozen in the past
But for the two souls
in the picture
It was then the present
Full of passion
and even though
they are long gone
the magic moment lives forever
way beyond those looking
at their karma

poem of the day July 27

Queen Ann's lace
what a pretty face
standing in the summer field
Rows of wild carrots
weaving together
in the wind
A living table cloth
of white medallions
that at first glance
look the same
but like homemade dreams
All are different views
of the same robe
making for a beautiful tapestry
while driving on an afternoon road

poem of the day July 26

A certain snow of gloom
sits atop a happy mountain
A certain sea of joy
flows over a sad valley
There is always a bit
of imperfection in perfection
whatever the direction
of the whirling soup of extremes we all live within
It is a world of endless possibilities
controlled by an emotional stew
that defines me
that defines you

poem of the day July 25

Peace at dawn
before its gone
Even the car
is sleeping
in the sticky summer air
I am waiting for the sun
to stir the long hot road
into a map of understanding

poem of the day July 24

Come deep the drop
Come high the climb
Encouragement from the extremes
Loud bull horns
standing way beyond the center
Where anger and fear
live in the open
blood veins of all those
trying to protect sanity
from insanity
Hot cold soldiers following
the same old map of emotion
The one misprinted with pages of pleasure

poem of the day July 23

Perhaps time waits
behind the next shadow
or maybe in a book
about to change
the range
of cows not branded
by the security of fear
The open mind
springs only as high
as the mountain it lives in
Sometimes it can not
jump over a fence
only one life long
It all depends on how
the cow eats the hay
of the valley

poem of the day July 22

Lost mask
tattooed with
the lines of life
is floating around
the long red house
Not even a mirror
is able to find
the face
without directions
Only the divine light
can shine that bright
on moments hiding
within darken sight

poem of the day July 21

New born eyes
open on blue sky
I am watching my granddaughter
each day understanding more
but learning what?
I thought we are
all trying to get back
to being her
to the garden
to birth time
to pure innocents
before we are polluted by
the road of life

poem of the day July 20

Floating on an idea
consumed by thought
in a long wooden boat
without a paddle
is sometimes better
then struggling
against a current
with all the tools
in the world
It all depends
on where you
think you are going
in the grand river

poem of the day July 19

Clear after the storm
Air crisp with wind
Sun brighter as it
pushes down
tree tunnels
full of emerald green
The three maples stand together
Old souls facing east
ready to enjoy another day
like good friends basking
in the soul of sunrise

poem of the day July 18

A funeral
though sad
is a very beautiful
reminder of
how love can touch
many candles
with the same flame
This eternal light
of overflowing memories
springs forth to open
the sea of gathered hearts

poem of the day July 17

Watching a crow
and a chipmunk
from the motel window
Each circling
like bull fighters
in a life and death dance
over tasty crumbs that
kill rats
six weeks
after starting
on a diet
of wonder bread

poem of the day July 16

Simple ingredients
make for flavors
so complex
it is hard to
taste the results
without a complete understanding
of black and white
Most times leaving fate
lost in the shadow
shades of confusing grey

poem of the day July 15

If the walk
is longer then the road
It is time to focus
on where you are going
instead of how many
miles you travel

poem of the day July 14

I was wondering about
all the loves and hates
heaped upon the human plate
All the generations
of trial and error
that mix so close
to each other
like attic cellars
Joined by the
the living room
where they dance
within the maze
The lost drive
so fresh a flower
thrown into the simmering chowder
Soup baked by all emotions
Will it last?
Everybody giggles
when they enter
the worm that wiggles

poem of the day July 13

Blueberries on the summer farm
make my mouth water
Those perfect balls of delight
mixed with cream
a little maple syrup
are heaven on earth
for a mere mortal man
working on his tan

poem of the day July 12

What a world we live in
Robot terrorists
equipped with bombs
play Russian roulette
with humanity
The panic we have
tried lifetimes to transcend
washes over the road
like acid rain thrown
on the faces of those we
pamper with love
The grand dream is now a screen
where we sit in this body anger fear
drinking a beer
guns by our side
hiding while the first of
the Apes escape

poem of the day July 11

I just realized that
other people's advise
is just the chatter of mice
No one knows how to wear
your clothes but you
Yet some attach meaning
with their gleaming
for nothing but the wish to be your control
Their intent is not your tent
So don't be weak
If you see their shadow in the road
kill them with your  sword
before they ruin your chance
to open the door

poem of the day July 10

"This is so much fun"
you said as you
lay there dying
Slipping each day toward
a new adventure
but still thrilled by the
one you were in
What beauty you revealed
as you sat on the bridge
between dreams
Happy in life
instead of worrying about death
I was one of the many
that stopped by
for a visit on your grand goodbye
That day an indigo bunting
came to your window
The one you looked out
you saw it and said
"I am so very blessed
to be full of love for
those I love best"

Rest in Peace Nancy

poem of the day July 9

When the abstract
takes a hammer
and drives in the tack
It makes the sign
an image for
walking on the track
"I know where your karma goes?"
the future often calls
to those starting on their path
still stuck within old walls

poem of the day July 8

"Does it matter?"
asked the hatter
to the bowl of batter
The batter chattered
"Some matters
are for the hatter
Some matters
are just patter
Others matters
are full of chatter
But mostly
the patter
of the chatter
does not matter
to anyone but the hatter
mixing the batter
and getting fatter"

poem of the day July 7

Does anyone ever
look at the space
between the action
The backdrop of the movie
The street instead of the sweet
If so I want to know
if your drops are full or empty
clouded with fear
or light shining clear

poem of the day July 6

A good broth
is easy to make
and filled with
yummy nectar
able to heal
all troubles
from the soul
down to deep marrow
The only problem
is finding the time
to properly swallow

poem of the day July 5

Waking to the rain
pattering down
into town
I wish I had known
last night
when I lay there
tossing
turning
worrying about
watering the poor
little plants
outside alone
in the wilderness
All the that effort
of mind wasted
on time that
can not bring
back the sleep
I seek

poem of the day July 4

I came back into
the tree of me
after spending the night
flying to dreams unknown
Somewhere on leaf wings
flapping in the wind
visiting places
familiar in past flights
but forgotten in
this spiraling circle of small mind me
Still attached to branches
Still content or uncontent
to stand connected to
my emotions of yesterday
basking, tasking in the sun
until the next
wave washes me
with the fleeting eyes
of true reality

poem of the day July 3

Oh My Oh My
Only two more days
of asparagus season
and then
we are on to the forth of July
Oh My Oh My
My lovely garden grass
is gone for the year
"But do not fear"
says the golden spear
"I'll be back
in another year

poem of the day July 2

When long suns
set at night
and the music
fills the trees
I think of all
the world at peace
beneath the summer breeze
The wild and the very tame
I wish them all the best
cause in every one
there is the sun
that walks with them till death

poem of the day July 1

The first of July
and the wild roses
are blooming
So fragile a flower
these wild ones
that can not last even
a day inside a trapped vase
Petals so fleeting
I have to smell
them carefully
as not to break their beauty
