poem of the day

An early
morning task
with the
right amount
of determination
can grow
into a job
well done
that's what
dawn says
to dusk
as they both
watch the sun
poem of the day March 30

The idea
of a wet
mountain
covered in
rain forest fog
waiting for a
rare sunny day
has given me
some simple
understanding
of self isolation

poem of the day March 29

I saw a hint
of daffodils
lined up along
a scenic trail
Their buds
were large
like special
dreams
The ones
you find
near wishing wells
I long for hope
within this fog
to find the path
toward eternal way
I think this wink
of daffodils are
stronger than
the Milky Way
poem of the day March 28

The rain splashed
the copper roof
like drops of jazz
The random notes
beat the silence
into a wet frenzy
Was it telling secrets
or just dripping music
from a night filled dream?

poem of the day March 27

I want a
batch of
fresh baked
cookies
rich ones
made with
real butter and
tons of maple syrup
I want a bag of
potato chips
the greasy ones
kettle fried
I want a bowl
of my mother's
mac and cheese
covered with breadcrumbs
I want all these familiar comforts
to remind me of an old easy going world
now lost in the slow bleed of an infected freeze

poem of the day March 26

I put two
of my favorite
rocks together
Close enough
so they were
almost touching
When I came back
in the morning
I swear they
had moved
closer together
It made me wonder
about the secret hearts of stone

poem of the day March 25

It would be better
if the old clown lived
in a small aquarium
full of big mirrors
surrounded by
parasites willing
to lick the lies off
of ugly round fish lips

poem of the day March 24

A late snow fall
brings a virgin white
covering mud season
tree branches with
an extra scoop of
winter frosting

poem of the day March 23

The dawn
poked into
my morning
without a sound
Moved around
for a while
while I made
the rounds
By the time
I woke to
fly my kite
It had disappeared
in the morning light

poem of the day March 22

Somethings about
early spring
The ground
still soggy
A patch of old snow
in the shadows
Birds flying around
Small sprouts winking
The sun warm on cold day

poem of the day March 21

Sitting still
in a favorite chair
watching a favorite tree
who I hoped was watching me
I thought about how that could be
Does a tree need eyes in which to see?

a poem of the day March 20

Another day
in the new spiral
I feel like Dorothy
being whirled
and whirled
into another world
One where we have landed
in the wrong Oz
run by the wrong wizard

poem of the day March 19

Where do the homeless go'
when the ship sinks?
Are they all trapped on the Titanic
Below deck, doors bolted shut
Not able or allowed on lifeboats
How do they save themselves
from drowning in uncharted waters?
Feels to me  like a big storm of a revolution
is a brewing somewhere out in the virus wave that be

poem of the day March 18

The old General Store
open since
the Civil War
is closing its door
The store had
everything imaginable
from nails to steaks
from boots to paint
from tools to milk
from chain to silk
Had stoves and pipes
to keep you warm
on long winter nights
The store even had a
'What do you call it
for a whose a ma Gig'
But now times are different
things are changing
the old General Stores
can't make it no more
Even one from the Civil War

poem of the day March 16

Funny how
humanity
comes together
only in uncertainty
I wonder how
this came to be?
Perhaps it comes
from ancient primitivity
But whatever it may be
it opens the clear
eye of empathy
allowing all of us to see
the real enemy
is not of you
is not of me
poem of the day March 17

soft light on
a wispy snow
thin thoughts
fall in silence
no birds chirping
singing this dawn
just a moment calm
before the storm

poem of the day March 15

A balloon flies
on the air within
A kite flies on
the air without
Both have
the same dream
of soaring up, up
and away
There is a difference
but not as great
as night and day

poem of the day March 14

Last year's leaves
flying fast on a gusty march wind
One strikes my window
with a sharp Rap Tap Tap
I hear the drum of ancestors
unlocked by the old leaf
shouting to the dormant trees
"Won't be long, Won't be long

poem of the day March 13

Now that we are
all separating
ourselves from
rest of humanity
it is time to find
A good house plant
A perfectly green friend
a living soul who waits and listens
needs very little
some water
some sun
but shows us the way
to simple happiness
as it grows toward the light

poem of the day March 12

Another week of madness
The head monkey slips
on the puss of a yellow banana
Birds no longer fly over the moon
Little mice scurry back and forth
eating what is left of confidence
Games are now played on courts with no balls
Only the strong arm of fear
allows this drip of madness
to continue like black waves
pounding out the riches of a poor restless shore

poem of the day March 11

A boat beached
in dry river
hoping to reach
the far away sea
prays for a hurricane
knowing her keel might
be buried too deep
to ride the new waves
as they splash over
her tired old hull

poem of the day March 10

The chickadees
do not care
if  stocks are crash
by panic bears
They just sing inside my ear
Chick-a-Dee-Dee-Dee-Dee
Chick-a-Dee-Dee-Dee-Dee
Over and Over and Over again
reminding me of simple things
Happy things that don't rely
on how much money it takes to fly

poem of the day March 9

Patterns of life
define the
road we take
Used legs inch
forward with
a comfortable gait
but If your feet
keep reaching
the same old brick wall
then it is time to jump
away from the familiar

poem of the day March 8

There were photos
Some were pictures
Close details of the sun
The angels were ending
their run that begun
With sweethearts of sinners
some couple they knew
who watched the movies
where everyone grows
They called all the sinners
to learn how to behave
when one is inside
a long serenade
I saw these emotions
overflow the old lake
It was exactly that moment
the angles ate cake

poem of the day March 7

There is light
but within the light
there is illumination
The intangible
gloss of sunrise
sparkles fresh on the face
of trees, bees and me
awakening a timeless imagination

poem of the day March 6

The strong sun
warming fresh
on morning snow
All around me sounds
of winter melting
drips falling, merging
to become a seasonal stream
just like sleep drifting into dream

poem of the day March 5

The refection
of a clear lake
captures ever detail
of a traveling soul
Everything except
the hidden thoughts
Those secrets are told
only to the rising sun

poem of the day March 4

Collective fear
of the unknown
has changed so
many future plans
All the hope of
looking forward
to something special
is now trapped
in the maze of
uncertainty
It is a rapidly
moving condition
more contagious then

the virus itself

poem of the day March 3

Many steps in life
are taken on
the wrong path
where dead ends
once full of promise
break glass slippers
like big Cinderellas
Still it does not matter
because everyone
eventually walks
toward the light
leaving footprints
to point in the right direction
poem of the day March 2

I saw a bluebird
on a apple tree
sitting on a branch
I looked at him
He looked at me
Then he flew away
into the air like sea

poem of the day March 1

With a head
in the sand
buried deep
into delusion
it is hard
to find truth
Yet very easy
to catch
fats worms
full of good
tasting lies
