poem of the day July 31

The age
of August
begins with
an old north wind
Air full of chills
Midsummer morning
Cold robins hunt for worms

poem of the day July 30

Light so softly
like daydreams
rolling over dreams
Soft realms
meshing two sisters
You see it all
round around
rimming the well
Change direction
when needed
More is less
Less is more
depending which
side of the door

poem of the day July 29

Slow morning
Soft light
Good green calm
I see the moment
like a grand piano
full of anticipation
about to open the stage

poem of the day July 28

Vibrations
pulse out
of all beings
inanimate
animate
Some flash
very quick
Some pedal
very slow
Some come
from deeper
than time
All are on
the ride of universe

poem of the day July 27

After many years
the old clock
was still running
Ticking away
year after year
even though
it was missing
all of its hands
Making it impossible
to keep track of time
Yet it sat on the mantle
full of measured rhythm
reminding one of the past
with every tick of its tock

poem of the day July 26

Turn the light inward
to see the awesome view
A view often neglected
by years of old and new
It might need renovation
to reveal the palace inside
but once achieved
the inner breeze
will be the tide to ride

poem of the day July 25

A rain within
a morning
moods
the light of day
perhaps
it clouds
some vision
where plans
then go awry
But remember
this change
though not welcome
is exactly
what we need
The override
of many lives
good wetness
upon green leaves

poem of the day July 24

Sip a simple morning
before sun does shine
sweet breath early dawn
savored like fine wine
I see  night melt away
to enter a new eternity
with a tide so grand
beyond all man
and happens everyday

poem of the day July 23

The eyes of all
the waiting
reveal the road
we've been
Big and sad
Small and glad
The mirror turned within
How many obstacles
an eye has overcome
makes the ticket found
more profound
much rounder
than the sun

poem of the day July 22

Crickets hiding
in  a round
about way
under boards
tiny hoards
growing big
everyday
The sun
changes angles
with a good windily flow
little fellas scatter
and so the Jiminy goes

poem of the day July 21

Indonesian cabinet
to big pine tree
My pet porcupine
has a new destiny
With help from my
good friend Will
we caught the beast
It was quite a thrill
I was armed with a net
Will had a spade
we put down a tarp
our trap was soon laid
Carefully he opened
the teak cabinet door
The porcupine darted
right out to the floor
Down came my net
Will's spade pinned it too
but it started to escape
there was only one thing to do
We quickly folded the tarp
into a waiting garbage can
And after a struggle we put
the beast into my van
Then we drove it away
to a big pine tree
Where we watched it climb
The porcupine was free

poem of the day July 20

An improbable
chain of events
in the barn
has left me with
a big porcupine
trapped in an
Indonesian cabinet
It all started with me
packing for the flea
garage door left open
mating birds fly in
birds build nest
lay eggs have babies
don't want to hurt birds
garage door kept open
letting porcupine walk in
I arrive see porcupine
porcupine runs I chase
straight into Indonesian cabinet
I quickly close door tight
trying to digest
the randomness of
cause and effect

poem of the day July 19

Rain on
green leaves
Sky darkens
surprised to see
no big wind
Hidden horizon
only hints
of constant turmoil
within light and thunder

poem of the day July 18 Buggy outside

Buggy outside
Bitten alive
Not a  very
good night
for man
nor beast
unless
you're a bird
about to feast

poem of the day July 17

A human fear
of sharks
Deep danger lurking
in the swimming sea
of our subconscious
differs from person to person
Is it healthy panic
or irrational delusion?
I guess it all depends
on how brave one is
when swimming in the ocean
while binge watching shark week

poem of the day July 16

Seeing that
big rock
over there
The one
sitting atop
other rocks
forming a
winding wall
full of lost toil
long abandon
in the middle
of a tall forest
makes me
understand
the true power
of nature

poem of the day July 15

In every town
of tic and toc
stands the big
meadow clock
Its hand of stone
straight and tall
marks the day
but does not
move at all
It is shadows
of the sun
that tells the time
for everyone

poem of the day July 14

Wagons
circling
a world
of uncertainty
Water off
Water on
Fire on
Fire off
Love on
Love off
Hate off
Hate on
Too many
see-saws
everyday
Climate
Humanity
don't mix
Anger growing
Flood growing
Land burning
Love disappearing
Seems the old
wagon needs
a new wheel
and lots of luck
to drive the road
and not get stuck

poem of the day July 13

I am going to bake
an elastic cake
and stretch it
to the Moon
I'll ride a cow
to show me how
to carry
a silver spoon
The two of us
will share our cake
with a man
shaped like a car
He'll strap us in
to seats of sins
and drive us
fast to Mars

poem of the day July 12

Pouring
grey clouds
filling green leaves
Drips hitting
puffed out bird
clinging while singing
songs from an air filled sea

poem of the day July 11

Early birds
discussing
last night
Patter about
the morning
Some seem
satisfied with
their dreams
Others squawk
about nightmares
All are looking for
a breakfast worm or two
as the sun pushes closer to rising

poem of the day July 10

Look for wear
on an old
pair of stairs
that opens
down from the sky
Was it firebug screams
or light from some dream
A star that grew up on Mars
Whatever they say
about time anyway
is not the clock
on which to pray

poem of the day July 9

Road Lilies rave
on long highways
Orange trumpets
driven by wind rain
jam into each other
like extroverted wallflowers
I see their shining heads
bobbing big in a soulful rain
as big as a summertime smile

poem of the day July 8

The boat landed on
shifting quicksand
Stars & Stripes
are now
Stripes & Stars
Fear & Loathing
flipped sides
and morphed into
Loathing & Fear
The door dropped open
into uncharted waters
Without even touching
a single step
everyone jumped off
holding tiny totems
made of melting ice cream

poem of the day July 7

Certain words
full of ambiguous
contradictions
allow the vagueness
of a vast ocean
to float sink and swim
presumably all at the same time
perhaps singing a song replete
of possibly conceivably maybes

poem of the day July 6

The yesterday before yesterday
The yesterday after yesterday
The tomorrow after tomorrow
The tomorrow before tomorrow
changes the direction
of Before and After
making it possible or impossible
to appreciate the simplicity of
the always present always present

poem of the day July 5

Backstroke
Breaststroke
Butterfly and crawl
All those people
swimming in a bowl
Up and Down
Water in the falls
fish are watching
everyone and all

poem of the day July 4

Slogging leads
to bogging
sinking deep into
a quick sand
like rain
Good soul soaking
Ground is open
ready to grow

poem of the day July 3

So where
they go
from sky
to moon
I can not see
foretold the rain
There was
some gold
in an old
stone wall
at least
that was
the story told

poem of the day July 2

The sound of rain
is familiar to all
even after
a long absence
The welcome whispers
seep into my mind
as morning wetness
falls from heaven
with a harmony
heard falling from
the open branches of every tree

poem of the day July 1

water rain
ground wet
green day
grey fog
still air
calm peace
morning begins
with small stirrings
like all things reborn
