poem of the day February 28

Late winter battle
Knights for light
Each week
dark loses time
Day pushes night
where for a few minutes
every dawn to dusk
every dusk to dawn
the two halves fight
for a fragile foothold
on the edge of a round world
playing their familiar game of saw-see

poem of the day February 27

The dogs were
happy to see me
The plant
was happy
to get
some water
The wood stove
waited patiently
for warm fire
And I am
happy to
be back home
to complete
these circles

poem of the day February 26

A new nightmare
somewhere
far away from
a rainbow
Just sad water
after a big rain
Raw red hearts
of innocents
found bleeding
yellow and blue
as war floats on
either side of the Dnieper
having little hope
of finding a bridge
out of a madman's mind

poem of the day February 25

I've never felt
a finer sand
underneath
my simple feet
Never such a
toe squish
pleasure
of pure joy
A luxury
so fine
it must be sin
yet here it is
A grand surprise found
on a beach
in old St Augustine
that was stumbled
upon by me and Nelle
as we searched for Ponce de Leon

poem of the day February 24 The alchemist

The alchemist
mixed a batch
of gold like cookies
from nothing
more than swampland
and a pair of used sunglasses
turning everything imaginable
into chunks of pure gold

poem of the day February 23

Some ways
of seeing
require
no sight
Especially
those of
the heart
Where  souls
dart in and out
of the flower hedge
Where love is
sensed by feelings
Open pulses conveying
those blind secrets
able to fill a willing room

poem of the day February 22

Twenty Two
Twenty Two
walk along
time avenue
Catch the date
Catch 22
Twenty Two
Twenty Two

poem of the day February 21

Paranormal possibilities
abound inside old towns
along ancient cobblestone
Drifting as a human tide
lost on land and sea
waiting for sublime discovery
I wonder if those ghosts
spotted wandering about
in the morning breeze
know where I can get
a good macaroni and cheese

poem of the day February 20

Time was
well dressed
very elegant
and suspended
as I pumped gas
next to a spotless
big old Lincoln Continental
wearing an original pair of
vintage New York license plates
The deep yellow plates
matched perfectly with the
1972 Lincoln's deep detailed black
better than even a fancy mafia like Cadillac

poem of the day February 19 Something very

Something very
primordial about
the way the sea
crashes the shore
especially at sunrise
when the early light
illuminates
every wave full
of unwavering perseverance
as they break
one after another
on a battered  beach
battling like clockwork
for a foothold in the churned quicksand

poem of the day February 18

Warm as a laugh
Warm in the belly
Warm by the sun
February is merry!

 poem of the day

Stuck with everyone
in someone else's traffic
Feeling the hard press
of unfamiliar wild barking cars
I am reminded of soul shitters
stalled in one big lump of bummer bumpers
entering into an arrangement
of nobody's liking

poem of the day February 16

How does one sit still
in a musical of chairs
when only so many chairs
are left hanging about?
It has to be one of
the greatest underrated
art thefts left for the souls
who make it to the last seat

poem of the day February 15

Has mankind
developed into
an anti laser?
Some dark power
condensing
out of darkness
to battle the intensity
of misunderstood god light?

poem of the day February 14

There are changes
within every change
Big ones, little ones
Ones that take time
like a lifetime of time
A new old seed planted
from the bow of a boat
trapped in the wind
going round in the moat
it mixes with journeys
in a ring circle claw
both long and short
with stray like drops
from a well known Well
between bottom and top
between Heaven and Hell

poem of the day February 13

When tracing the past
along a worn trail
While walking the future
it is easy to get confused
in merging vapors
still lingering from
the well of old footprints

poem of the day February 12

Water drops
Air bubbles
The in-verse
The out-verse
up down percolation
of phoenix women
and mermaid men
Some weird universe
completely surrounded
within a big round ball

poem of the day February 11

Small dreams
drive big lives
tied together
in fragile tides
The rush begins
with a flock of loons
watching life
from shifting dunes
They're placing bets
on your frozen dreams
to see if one has made ice cream

poem of the day February 10

Pine sap turpentine
Maple sap divine
How does one explain
the blood of trees
to a carpenter
when both are good
when used as wood

poem of the day February 9

After many
months of
intense diplomacy
the entrenched sides
were finally able to achieve
their first major breakthrough
With great fanfare in a joint press conference
they announced the following:
We both agree there is nothing else
we will ever agree again to agree upon

poem of the day February 8

In the poignant snow
falling warm and big
within a hue like soup
that hung full of cream
I walked by the aging wooden
Valley Zendo sign
and thought of a forgotten monk
who carved the wood so long ago
I remember him very well
especially the last time we spoke
right before he tried too hard to fly

poem of the day February 7

Time to reflect
on the inner journey
The places visited
The few visited well
Over the years
mountain plates collide
blocking paths
that were once open
Now time
tries to recede
body and mind
effort is needed
to keep all seas

poem of the day February 6

The amazing life
of an icicle
A cold dagger
slowly dripping
Down, Down
like a unicorn
dragon horn
grown to almost
4 feet long
but when I awoke
the horn was gone

poem of the day February 5 A lady bug

A ladybug
appeared
next to me
Was it chance
or destiny?
What we know
What is so
depends on which
side of the coin
of coincidence
defines our existence
I think the bug was sent to me
to question the paths of reality

poem of the day February 4

Storming right now
Nature on stage
a wintery tempest
full on February mix
Starring the many
splendid  drops of water
The entire cast of H2O
together again for another
great messy wet day
fog, rain, freezing rain,
ice, hail, sleet and snow
Good day for a snowman
to stay inside, light a pipe
pull out a favorite chair and watch the show

poem of the day February 3

There was a pale
over the haze
Both hung thick
like dense fog on
an opaque veil
covering almost all truths
making it near impossible
to see the whether in weather

poem of the day February 2

The groundhog
unexpectedly
dropped dead
the day before
groundhog day
forcing the entire town
to completely abandon
all groundhog related events
leaving everybody
absolutely stunned
and completely on their own
in predicting the rest of winter

poem of the day February 1

All the great changer were
gathered together
at the great change convention
discussing great change
One great changer asked
a very simple question:
Do you think
of change more at
one time than another
Like do you think more
of change during the beginning of
a new month, a new year
than other times
of less excitement?
