poem of the day April 30

A new day
Sun edging
across my meadow
before moving to edge
across the world
Always illuminating
the lightness of
darkness souls
Never stopping
for even one second

poem of the day April 29

Sometimes
things move
in unexpected ways
Last week
while driving by
Huge Super Giant
red white & blue
American flags
in very Red States
I noticed
the patriotic wind
was blowing
all Flags to the left

poem of the day April 28

I wonder
I wander
where we are
where we go
when we are
not conscious
not aware
of dogs barking
When we are
fast asleep
with body
suspended
on auto play
heart pumping
mind dreaming
life moving
Where does
light fit in?

poem of the day April 27

Haven't
been in
any rain
for a while
Enjoying
the patter
I think the drops
have a mind
of their own
A power
beyond water
beyond sky
The mix makes
for very good sound

poem of the day April 26

A road hotel
with lots of rooms
each night is filled
with many souls
Weary travelers who
stopped their lives
to be within some fold
Why all those minds
in need of rest
with different thoughts
of how the world should be
had gathered for a common
goal  intertwined in mystery
All I know about
the sleep of night
besides a collective snore
is all shared a sacred space
from where dreams would pour
And for a moment all would be one
until the morning dawn
then their lives would separate
to head on down the road

poem of the day April 25

The dard ages
have returned
books banned
Shallow leaders
soil themselves
to divide settled mountains
by stirring up the meaningless
These growing rivers
of social influence
carve new paths
into old valleys of hate
God seems
to be a prize
fought over
by waves of
reinforced followers
blindly reaching for
shiny righteous buttons
handed out
by cunning wolfs
bent only on power
disguised as freedom
disguised as goodness
What happens next
depends on you

poem of the day April 24

The sun
comes
up and down
like a
merry-go-round
Each day
another
rise and fall
tis a tide to ride
for wide eyed souls

poem of the day April 23

Everything is true
Everything IS
bigger in Texas
Big trucks
Big hats
Big hair
Big country
Yes, Texas is proud
to be the biggest state
Therefore it
comes as a surprise
to find the Lone Star
has the smallest
of compassion when
it comes to
basic humanity

poem of the day April 22

The rise and fall
The hills and valleys
The road is
a well horned dragon
undulating each mile
Eating cars
Eating gas
Eating life
quicker than
a skinny Texas longhorn
eating wild desert grass

poem of the day April 21 Gone souls

Gone souls
of Indians
merge wind
like water
Current moving
from mountain
to mountain
over valley floor
I keep thinking
I am swimming
in some sea
greater than me

poem of the day April 20

How a giant city
ended up replacing
the wild desert
Of Arizona
is a testimony to
the madness of man
It is a feat
as grand as
chopping down
all the Easter Eggs
on Easter Island

poem of the day April 19

Shade and Sun
The never ending
world  of daylight
Comes at dawn
Leaves at dust
Burns the cool
Cools the burn
All day long
Way Light Way

poem of the day April 18

Some things
just go smoothly
sort a synchronicity
Like a Zen moment
Somehow the wood
for the chicken fence
appeared on the street
out of nowhere
and almost built itself
Was it divine karma?
Was it luck?
Does it matter?

poem of the day April 17

For time
there is
no rest
How it keeps
going day
after day
must be
exhausting
No sleep ever
year after year
Yet there it is
ticking away
up early
way before me
greeting the sunrise

poem of the day April 16 The chatter

The chatter
of LA birds
appear at dawn
The loud roar
of muscle cars
begin to fade
into a soft
tweet tweet
Every once
in a while
the two worlds
merge into one

poem of the day April 15

May those
recipes
hidden for years
in old cookbooks
come to good life
in new kitchens
full of  inspirations
Modern twists
of aged classics
setting plates to table
with fresh hands
guided by tested tradition

poem of the day April 14

The LA River
has about
as much water
as a small
vernal stream
It makes me
wonder how
there can be
so many green
lawns in a land
so dry?

 poem of the day April

The west coast wind
howled the windows
Back and Forth
The clatter slammed
very much like
a wild freight train
running on loose tracks
too fast for old guardrails

poem of the day April 12

How did
this happen?
Somehow I
have ended
up in a casino
on the Vegas strip
sitting at a table
watching vices
Sexy girls
Drunk men
Street urchins
and the smell
of make and money
bang, bang
loud machines
loud people
loud lights
made for an
interesting hustle
I have to say
the last minute
hotel deal has
immersed me
in a culture of
superficial greed

poem of the day April 11 In amongst

In amongst
the tumbleweed
Lay an old miner's cabin
still proud
but full of need
The ancient homestead
was in some disrepair
yet sat tall in the wilderness
without a worry or care
It was a reminder to all
of a prospector's home
of a gold rush that came
but now was long gone

poem of the day April 10

The wind
of Nebraska
blew the hat
off my head
like a thunderbolt
I fought the gusts
as the hat rolled over
the flat plowed prairie
Blowing up and down
until I finally caught it
The strong wind
reminded me
of swimming
in the sea
In air currents
with as much
power as water

poem of the day April 9 Profound words

Profound words
hang on the side
of highways
Slow children
Dead end
Work zone
Fines double
No services
Next rest area
50 miles
Deer crossing
Railroad crossing
Bridges freeze
before roads
No turn on red
No left turns
Right turns only
Stay in lane
Buckle up
it's the law
Encase of
emergency
Call 911
In case of injury
call Jim Jones

poem of the day April 8

So many farms
as I drive into
the heartland
Some full of
last years crops
Some freshly plowed
by huge Big tractors

poem of the day April 7

To see
what
no one
ever sees
is an art
when walking
in rooms full
of every kind of
shiny distraction
The trick is to look
away from the bling
and reach into those mundane spaces
most often dismissed as the ordinary
Where secret places hide
full of things extraordinary

poem of the day April 6

Another
path poem
on how
to live the journey
Overdone
by everyone
But in defence
of all poets
and for all poets
The road is gold
Whether one rides
down the familiar highway
or blazes a new trail
through the wilderness

poem of the day April 5

Hands in
garden soil
Wet cold
Dark brown
Fingers deep within
good fresh dirt
First caress of
early spring
First dive
into the womb

poem of the day April 4

The sea
of remembrance
filled the hall
like a big wave
I watched those
caught up
in the moment
come up to the lectern
and remember their friend

poem of the day April 3

The past lives
of forgotten souls
are gathered round
a farmhouse old
A bottle dump
blue brown white
brings forth clues
of daily life
Each shovel into
the ancient pit
reveals another
generation of glass
These colored bottles
are a glimpse of fate
Of what they drank
Of what they ate

poem of the day April 2

Wishing in
a wishing well
somewhere deep
but can not tell
All those times
the dreams
came through
Was it coincidence?
Was it true?
Time moves like
a river of tides
here to there
enjoy the ride

poem of the day April 1

Smell of
fresh soil
Overcast wet day
Slow dripping rain
Still very still
the moist of dawn
is my brain
