poem of the day August 31

Ice is like
a fragile glue
melts away
all you do
Boundaries
a few degrees
only works
in a freeze

poem of the day August 30

A ghost row
of an old maple grove
Grey trunks shimmering
alive in a morning fog
lining a New England road
somewhere near Vermont
The old stumps appear to dance
like cinderella in sugar season
I can almost taste the sweet sap
of long gone years of yesterday

poem of the day August 29

In a trap of time
unclothed in robes
the newly gathered
appeared at the gate
unaware of the journey
that has just begun

poem of the day August 28

The late green of August
still fresh and alive
No tree that I can see
has given up
on summertime
But soon
as sure as
a night with  moon
The leaves will change
like every year
until the last leaf falls
and the trees are bare

poem of the day August 27

The dabble of a meadow rain
feels wet upon the skin
Big clouds hide an open sky
framed like a cradled night
A sudden crackle with a gust of wind
disappears soon without a trace
This quick lived storm is not the norm
in a summer tipping away from light

poem of thge day August 26

After many years
of piloting into
calmer seas
Reliving the feeling
of an old unwanted
familiar habit
as it abruptly
breaks through
from deep inside
is a reminder
of storms still hiding
somewhere within
the remembered soul
of all glass vessels

poem of the day August 25

The wings of crickets
once again
dominate the
morning sounds
A grand horde
of music chimes
their symphony surrounds
both in and out of every yard
makes no difference
to them at all
The play at dawn
The play at night
the same exacting call

poem of the day August 24

Does light
follow dark?
Does dark
follow light?
Which came first
day or night?
Does it matter
at all to the suns
shining bright
on everyone?

poem of the day August 23

The rain
arrived
at 3:35
While
I was
talking to
a butterfly
We did
not think
the rain
would fly
Both of us
were quite
surprised

poem of the day August 22

Miles away
from any sea
everyone can
put a shell
to their ear
and hear the roar
of rushing waves
but only a master
will know which
ocean is calling

poem of the day August 21

Cracks of light
breaking out
over the peaks
of Saddleback
Vermont sunrise
Something so simple
so basic
so beautiful
like all sunrises
but a pleasure
often missed
by those in need of sleep

poem of the day August 20

Finally the dragonflies
have arrived and
filled the skies
They glide across
the expanse of fields
in formations so unreal
Like magnificent men
in their flying machines
I see their dance
as great romance
They go up
They go down
each and every flight
in packs they fly
in sheer delight

poem of the day August 19

Humanity
defined
as harmony
Individual pieces
of a grand puzzle
Fitting together
with imperfections
almost perfectly

poem of the day August 18

plain pure light
no colored hue
no fuzzy film
just the way
things are

poem of the day August 17

On this still morning
super dry overcasting
but no lick of rain
I am like a weird God
as I water the chosen
plants of human desire
Outside the gates
of my garden
I feel the hordes
of other thirsty
plants and trees
desperately looking
for a few drops
I hear their soulful pleas
Please, Please water me

poem of the day August 16

interpreting
misinterpreting
miss the interpret
inter the misinterpret
At some point in
with all these interpretations
bumping into each other
the lines of reality get blurred
into complete confusion
and everything
just becomes a point of view

poem of the day August 15

AH, the dilemma
of caterpillars
brought inside
to watch them
metamorphosize
With MilkWeed
in short supply
I went to gather
what was left
by the hillside
On one eaten leaf was
a very tiny caterpillar
that would need
my picked leaves to survive

So what did I do?
Some of you might be pondering
It was really quite a dilemma
But after much thought
I took in the little fella
Now I am happy to say
all these Monarch caterpillars
will all be metamorphosing together

poem of the day August 14 A cold dawn

A cold dawn
for an August
dog day
Clear, still
Birds quiet
No sound
inside or out
A nice space
for mortals
to be reminded
of solitude

poem of the day August 13

A rock
on the edge
of a river
Sometimes
underwater
Sometimes
above
But never
able to
decide
for itself
Reminding
me of
the power
of things
beyond control

poem of the day August 12

My house plants
have gotten
into the dog days
Into the summer groove
Happily hanging
soaking in the rays
I see them basking
in hot August weather
working on their leaves
thinking about life
rain, outside wind
and deep soulful smiles
something for them to remember
inside rocking by the warm winter fire

poem of the day August 11

Somewhere the floor
stands firm and stoic
Able to hold the tread of
footprints old and new
The long boards creak
under the sounds of life
Sometimes they buckle
Sometimes they break
Only the cat seems to know
where to walk within these lines

 poem of the day August

A morning sunrise
brings to light
many things
Big and small
in and out of us all

poem of the day August 9

Some shore
along a stretch
of sand
full of  clams
holds a tiny view
But what it sees
is long and true
like tides of life
are of no concern
What they fear
are tidal worms

poem of the day August 8

I'm designing a line
of alignment clothes
Gravity alignment clothing
A collection of fine
must have beautifully crafted  posture correctors
made of tiny sensors sending out gentle
almost undetectable posture pulses
to every part of anybody's body
Gravity pulses with changes so subtle
most will not even be aware
they are changing until
over time they are
profoundly changed
but only if they sufficiently wear
the special alignment clothes

poem of the day August 7

River shallows
hide a world
full of tiny fry
Small schools
of young fish
swimming
in and out
of rock eddies
safety away
from river rapids
but still in water
deep enough
to be of danger

poem of the day August 6

With all those stars
shining in outer space
I have to wonder
if they ever race?
Do they full out sprint
to the galaxy line
and bend the rules
of light and time?

poem of the day August 5

The pace of rain
is not keeping up
with the sun
The parched meadow
is like a patch of
fried green eggs
with burned brown centers
I heard a few ants
complaining about
the situation
Especially about
a loud cricket
making jokes
about an upcoming
insect apocalypse

poem of the day August 4

A shadow silhouette
The act of an open door.
A green band
upon the hand
about to twist the knob
It was all caught
in a motionless thought
by the grace of what we see
While climbing the stairs unaware
the shadow did appear to be

poem of the day August 3

Falling into habits
Falling into the familiar
Easy to follow things passed
Change is always a hard road
especially when compared
to worn tracks of a lifetime
The trick is to remember
Some shoes are able
to handle both

poem of the day August 2

What if Angels
really were Angles
Each degree
a flapping spirit
Each gradient
a temple guardian
Then the triangle
would be the steeple
to climb the light for everyday people

poem of the day August 1

The walk
from here
to there
To complete
the journey
directions are
sometimes needed
to avoid dark clouds
caused by the very gait
the determined stride
of each step
wrongly taken
