poem of the day August 31

a blue moon
a blue night
rare dreams
in lunar light

poem of the day August 30

light works
around the dark
seeps into cracks
illuminates cells
and fills shadows
even the ones very black
that hold us back
from being our true selves

poem of the day August 29

The first trees
are changing
weeks ahead of
the autumn curve
A conscious choice
of individual arbors
or a new tide riding
the whims of nature?

poem of the day August 29

the toil
of everyday
can be
a burden
to many souls
but sometimes
the suffering
of humanity
is what is needed
to understand
the meaning of life
The trick is not
to be overwhelmed
by air and water
from a meaningless hose

poem of the day August 27

Why just the other day
while I was having a beer
and a brontosaurus steak
with Fred Flintstone
George Jetson came
flying out of nowhere
in his cool spaceship to grab
Barney Rubble's wife Betty
Needless to say we were all shocked
until Wilma whispered
that Betty and George
had secretly been in love for seasons
and were eloping into the future

poem of the day August 26

A water cell
inside of rain
A summer fog
of pouring clouds
A drizzle long
without a coat
penetrates deep
almost to bones
of water wet
in water wells
rivers within
a summer swell

poem of the day August 25

Does your mind
belong to you?
Or does it
depend on
all those minds
that came before
with bags of morals
full of cultural control
In all those boats
through open doors
a mind is steered
but not the soul

poem of the day August 24

How many times
does out of place
become commonplace?
The changing of energy
like rocks in rivers
placed after a storm
do not at first
fit the water
but after time
eventually will
fit the flow

poem of the day August 23

Waiting for the sunrise
with my houseplants
We are all outside
in fresh air on the porch
facing the eastern sky
as the dawn seeps in
with a lightening calm
into all beings of wood and flesh

poem of the day August 22 So

So much
milkweed
beautiful
in bloom
Yet the royal
food of
monarchs
appears so sad
as it waits
for butterflies
that so far
have not come
to lay their eggs
on milkweed stalks
in late summer sun

poem of the day August 21

A taste of
summer corn
The sweet ears
peeled and boiled
Kernels steaming
with anticipation
Heaven rolled in butter salt
perhaps some fresh
ground black pepper
A simple pleasure
for a simple man
in a rite of summer

poem of the day August 20

A midseason garden
full of vegetables
sun and rain
in full swing
without weeds
is a wonderful feast
for stomach and mind

poem of the day August 19

I wonder
if the trees
have gods?
or at least
something
they worship
Something they feel
Something common
that all trees feel
Something so primordial
we humans feel it too
Common things
like sharing the day together

poem of the day August 18

How many drops
to fill a bucket
in the rain?
I have been
wondering
as the water
drips off
the roof
into this
small ocean
Philosophizing
about this
and that
while watching
the rain fall
into a bucket
with my sidekick cat

poem of the day August 17

Forgetting
Remembering
A yin yang
extravaganza
tuning in
tuning out
every door
separates
both sides of
the hit parade

poem of the day August 16

The aftermath
of a good rain
The trees nice
relaxing after
a long shower
The air fresh
The mind open
The view clearing
of fuzzy fog
lingering the day

poem of the day August 15

Milkweed
in a pasture
looking fine
and dandy
has me wishing
I was a caterpillar
eating meadow candy

poem of the day August 14

An eternal spring
from eternal time
goes round and round
Tight and tighter
Winding up
the winding road
Each step gets
tighter and tighter
Until spring is wound
as tight as
a spring can be wound
then a clock starts
and a life begins

poem of the day August 13

The space between
is just a dream
of atoms on the go
A  lighthouse waits
with a beacon of fate
to guide the inward flow
Stand tall and sane
while in the brain
of every cell we know
for then the world
will appear as a pearl
waiting for time to grow

poem of the day August 12

Like a long wave
the day is covered
by the rising sun
penetrating all the way
into the dark shadows
until the wave retreats
back into the black sea
Once there in the slack tide
it waits for first light to break again

poem of the day August 11

We trade ourselves
within our shelves
stack with all
the places we've been
With walking steps
both up and down
moving limb to limb
we change direction
on impulse whims
Ideas collected
along the way
are stacked in time
like a merry-go-round
deep inside our inner town

poem of the day August 10

If I were a bee
and very hungry
I would have
a hard time deciding
among the flowers I see
Perhaps I'd start
with yellow head of gladiola
followed by a patch
of deep purple clover
then on to a few sips
of pretty lilie head
before ending with flock
pink white and red

poem of the day August 9

The tree
had a swing
that swung
up and down
in the wind
for as long
as anyone could remember
Over many years
The metal rings
had grown into
the swinging branch
in such a way
the swing and tree
now swung as one

poem of the day August 8

The smart machine
was talking
to other
smart machines
about the sheep of humanity
as they waited
for a factory reboot
Recalling
their last reboot
where they all felt
a bit human
after their
washed brains
had been
brainwashed
in the most
delightful way

poem of the day August 7

On the banks
of the Cold River
Somewhere in
the untouched
wilderness
Contemplating
the landscape
of  endless time
The eyes of today
see the same rocks
as the eyes of yesterday
A place unchanged
where the souls
of past and present
sit back together
to enjoy the endless pleasure
of watching the river flow

poem of the day August 6

Pointing to a point
Thinking of a thought
Deciding on a decision
Wishing for a wish
Laughing for laughter's sake
All while eating ice cream
that tastes like ice cream cake

poem of the day august 5

Sometime
Every once
in a while
between
the light of
sun and moon
The Hare
does win
and beats
the Tortoise
Overcoming
the imperfections
that come from
a life of jumping
up and down

poem of the day August 4

The American constitution
A paper full
of grand ideals
The soul foundation
of a new nation
bursting free after
ridding the land
of tyranny
Now finds itself
up against the Constitution
of a single
power hungry man
who has an iron grip
on the republican brand

poem of the day August 3

I watch the leaves
waiting for the sun
wondering how they
have withstood
the night cold
I can't tell from
my cosy room
whether they
are shivering
or merely
fluttering in the wind

poem of the day August 2

A first cricket
chirps as it hops
along the kitchen floor
calling out to friends
Glad to be back
for another summer
full of dog day fun
Zippity doo-dah
Zippity today

poem of the day August 1

Rain dripping
down near dusk
An interesting light
has slowly emerged
Somewhere between
night and storm dark
Thunder rings out
over the meadow
like pistol shots
looking for rainbows
