poem of the day July 31

watching
garden plants
in the rain
open themselves
in the moment
savoring a sip
of much needed water
I can almost hear
their sigh of relief

poem of the day July 30

I am marveling
at the size
and number
of giant dragonflies
hunting in the summer sky
Feeling very glad to be a human
not one of those other flying bugs
running for their lives

poem of the day July 29

The morning
acts as a door
to unlock a new day
in an old play
that has yet
to be opened
All those thoughts
of the future
prepared by
the past
walk through
the lighted door
into the mostly familiar
but still unknown present
Where anything
can happen

poem of the day July 28

the sun dominates
illuminates morning
with big rays
that sparkle through
big leaves
happy to
be opened by
yesterday's rain

poem of the day July 27 A July meadow

A July meadow
covered full of
queen anne's lace
No prettier a table
ever sat down for grace
A white weaved carpet
sways in a gentle wind
A lovely grand setting
for a summer feast to begin

poem of the day July 26

As I was
sitting outside
on a still
summer day
a daffy wind
suddenly appeared
I watched as it
chased itself
through around
and over the top
of a maple branch
in a fine loop de loop
but instead of an encore
the daffy wind died
back into stillness

poem of the day July 25

Bone dry air
brown burned lawn
curled crispy leaves
serious lack of rain
Thirsty stalks
everywhere
eyeing me
with hose
watering
I feel like
a selfish God
spraying only
my chosen flock of
vegetables & flowers

poem of the day July 24

Hawks flying
over cars
Bear spotted
near Vermont
Deer on side
of roads
Groundhog
eating gardens
Turkeys flock
in meadow
Squirrels on tree
Animal postcards
of Dog day summer
for all the world to see

poem of the day July 23

The trees awoke
gathered in darkness
waiting for the sun
as it appeared
the trees yawned
shook off the dew
opened their leaves
and read the daily sky

poem of the day July 22

The art of
remembering the leftovers
Things left behind
Carefully wrapped
Put away for
another day
The over abundance
of too much goodness
good food
good dreams
good thoughts
Things often forgotten
after the satisfaction
of the moment
Abandoned for so long
many have spoiled
and have to be thrown away
without once remembering
the art of remembrance

poem of the day July 21

Master says:
Time does not
stand still
for anybody
or anything
But anybody
or anything
can stand
still in time

poem of the day July 20

The light was
always there
But sometimes
hard
to see
Sometimes
hard
to imagine
Especially
when
one is
looking at
something
hiding in
plain sight

poem of the day July 19

a peek-a-boo light
filters down
at dawn
I see shadows
among the trees
playing hide and seek
as if they were
being hunted
by Vestal Virgins
intent on keeping
the fire inflamed

poem of the day July 18

Circles again
they always seem
to appear
Some round
Some shaped
like racetracks
we all run around in
Lots of them cross
into other circles
Some even travel together
Some are like comets
and only appear
once in a while
Some circles never meet
or maybe they do
but not in this lifetime

poem of the day July 17

Adam & Eve
working in
the garden
side by side
with the snake
A tame one at first
but then
A thirsty hungry one
always hunting
for space
between
the atoms

poem of the day July 16

A staircase
bridge angles
over gravity
Softening
the pour up
pour down
ascending
descending
feeling of weight
one feels
while stepping
on steps that
lead both ways
Providing
a good foundation
for all traveling
a force that
can not
be seen but
is always present

poem of the day July 14

Masks of humanity
sit on faces
formed by nerves
Shaping the everyday mask
worn by the masses
Features formed
by an electric individuality
running inside everyone
I see out of my
bundle of nerves
You see out of yours
But is what we see
of the same world?

poem of the day July 13

Lily dilly living
in July
So many
orange yellow
trumpet heads
swaying out there
Everywhere
bold & free
along the highway
keeping things
very roadside
with colors
so very, very
Lily dilly Dandy

poem of the day July 12

I like the phrase
Go thee there
for the dream
of travel
in ordinary lives
I like to be
or not to be
to know
we are all alive
But the words
in this life
I most
understand are
the words
I think, therefore I am

poem of the day July 11

Black tie
red lips
yellow canary
Blue sky
purple haze
white fairy
Brown bonnet
green grass
pink lemonade
Tan torsos
grey goose
orange marmalade
Silver spoon
peach daiquiri
olive martini
Gold chain
turquoise beads
on lime bikinis

poem of the day July 10

all trees just
stand there
all day long
in all kinds
of weather
content to be
happy for no reason
imagine if all people could do that

poem of the day July 9

A soft morning rain
leisurely lightens
into the sunrise
A gentle beat of drops
falling on a copper roof
grow further apart
Sounds fade each minute
like slow motion echos
running out of gas

poem of the day July 8

Hard to see
the inner light
that has
become blinded
by the shiny
reflections of
spangled culture
Where fake beads are
revered as natural
Where the shallow mirror
works its charms
in predictable
plastic ways
So far from
the primordial campfire
in dire need of truth

poem of the day July 7

There were
small fine lights
low in the sky
on a hot summer night
Where a bunch
of dancing fireflies
were blinking all over
the meadow
in patterns
of very familiar stars
I even saw one that
looked like the Milky Way
hovering over a field of hay

poem of the day July 6

Cold crisp dawn
Birds slowly
sing into
the fleeting stillness
as red purple sky
opens its eye

poem of the day July 5

Going along
Tentatively traveling
on an unfamiliar familiar
The old road has become
wiped of everything
except cartoon characters
that dress for TV
like plastic John Waynes
A strange movie
now requiring one to be
satisfied with
a new status quo
that no longer
lives in normal norms
The disappearing guard rails
have been replaced
by armed guards checking for
those traveling without tickets

Thursday, July 3, 2025

poem of the day July 3

so far
the deer
that live
around the farm
don't like
Rock & Roll music
The radio
in the middle
of the garden
blasting out classics
day and night
keeps them away
Been two weeks now
and still the plants live
I hope it is truth and not my delusion

poem of the day July 2

The possibilities
for equality
have dwindled
Each wormy wobble
eats another
bite of the apple
Pretty soon
nothing will be left
but near dead seeds
needed for
the next generation
Such is
the power of
insatiable greed

poem of the day July 1

common ground
the sacred center
the melting pot
of American
bedrock soil
is being overrun
chipped away
ruthlessly undermined
by extreme
out of control storms
manufactured
by a cruelty  of our
own making
