poem of the day October 31

Halfway between
equinox & solstice
lies the spooky realm
of All Hallows Eve
The opening portal
of living with the dead
A strange unsettled time
when the vapors
of ghosts & goblins mingle
with innocent laughing
halloween costumed children
eagerly hunting candy
Night knocking on doors
where everyone shouts
TRICK OR TREAT
mostly unaware
of the ancient meaning

poem of the day October 30

A few trees
still clothed
most trees
very naked
all shivering
Day cold
morning dark
heavy rain
to come
upon the plain
A good dawn
to stay inside

poem of the day October 29 Spring tightening

Spring tightening
squeezing all
the common good
All the compassion
out of America
Tighter Tighter
each day till
the clock ticks
but does not tok
Leaving no space
Blurring the line
between lies & truth
Only focus is
the new virtue of greed
Where leaders dance
in the golden ballroom
complementing
each others good looks
All with no care of
their loyal subjects
starving on the streets
But it is wise to remember
as the French did long ago
when the clock does finally break
there are many more have-nots
than those who have

poem of the day October 28

At the 11th century
castle ruins
where
the movie
Braveheart
was filmed
feeling the real past
Life long gone
but ghosts everywhere
Arrow shooting windows
guard the outer walls
Inner moat empty
still visible
covered by
green grass
The towering castle
with ancient
stone stairs
lead both to
living quarters
and dungeons

Poem of the day October 27

The driver did arrive to Galway
having travelled from very far away
Driving backwards wrong sided roads
through a Limerick of no control
Yet somehow the driver got there anyway

poem of the day October 26

An east coast
American guy
standing on
a sand beach
western shore
of the Atlantic
Absorbing
the power
of the sea
trying to feel
the subtleness
of Irish ocean chi
3000 miles
from the waves
where I usually be

poem of the day October 25 Plenty of

Plenty of
priceless emeralds
dot the Emerald Isle
Treasures as far as
the eye can see
Deep dark rich grasses
cover hillsides
full of mist & rainbows
reminding me that
the most beautiful jewels
in the world are plentiful and free

poem of the day October 24

A rainbow
over Tipperary
for some
a sign pointing
the long way home
For some only
the greed of
a pot of gold
I just hope
the leprechauns
of the mind
don't steal it
from the leprechauns
who work the mine

poem of the day October 23

Walking on
a cobblestone
old city
ancient road
reminds me
of things very passed
Seeing bullet holes
on Irish statues
from the 1916 uprising
reminds me of a recent past
But things new within
the old walls of Dublin
reminds me of now

poem of the day October 22

James Joyce
Molly Malone
and Oscar Wilde
adorned in
well dressed
proper Astro bodies
were gathered
around a table
in Brazen Head pub
drinking Irish Whiskey
eating an assortment of shellfish
There was an empty seat
and the three seemed to be
waiting for someone
I knew it wasn't me but
I was at the next table
having arrived in
some mad poet dream
listening to their small talk
"These cockles and mussels are alive, alive"
"Yes, I can resist everything but temptation"
"Yes and we all know Mistakes are the portals of discovery"
I wondered, who were they waiting for?
Samuel Beckett, William Butler Yates
perhaps Bram Stoker, George Bernard Shaw?
But no, as I was musing
Jonathon Swift appeared
looking very haggard after a long travel

poem of the day October 21

Traveling
back roads
of Dublin
driving through
Irish lives
Old neighborhoods
Old doorways
Old houses
Old patina covering
generations of  ancient homes
I especially liked
an old couple
standing by an old brick facade
wearing old fashion hats
made of  new wool

poem of the day October 20

a fine fall day
the sun warm
and plentiful
a slight wind
gently rustles
those few leaves
still left on trees
making me realize
some afternoons
though fleeting are
worthy of contentment

poem of the day October 19

America
from Greenfield
to Bakersfield
was alive
with patriots
It was wonderful
to see  everyday
Americans grather
in vast numbers
All there to protest
the lying king
who was hiding in
his hateful house
fixing his hair
applying his makeup
planning his revenge
surrounded by
an army of soulless grifters
eager to profit from
his ever dangerous weave of lies

poem of the day October 18

Autumn green
fall grass tall
emerald jewels
in need  of trimming
Yesterday's wind
whipped the blades
into a frenzy
tufting the strands
into little teepees
that lift out of
the morning frost
like christmas trees

poem of the day October 17

My friend Dan
told me he bought
an antique door
at the flea
He told me
It was an old door
covered with
a wonderful patina
full of time
He said he was going
to put the old door
in his new house
as his new front door
After he left
I started musing:
If you had a door
from another
other house
One that had
opened & closed
for hundreds of years
would there be any
things, thoughts
left of those that
had passed through
that door from
another time
from another house
so long ago?

poem of the day October 16

toxic masculinity
has overrun
the minds
of lonely
immature
unsatisfied
unconfident
young men
talked in
to being
scared of
showing love
for their mommies

poem of the day October 15

Drizzle down
drying fast
in the sun
Misty morning
meadow wings
covering what's
left of falling leaves
Making them glisten
like glossy butterflies
free falling from trees

poem of the day October 14

Sometimes
the light
brightens
the night
Sometimes
it's as dull
as a spoon
Often it seems
caught in some dream
chasing shadows
to power the moon
Where it does shine
it glows like fine wine
fueling oceans  to
swell up the tides
And to no one's surprise
by the morning sunrise
the light is bright in the sky

poem of the day October 13

Can you
walk on
a road
when  wet?
Will you slip
on tears
brought on
by fears
of those who
get caught
in the net?
Are you able
to step on
a slippery web
and still keep
your mind when
walking the line
on a road so
rainy & wet?

poem of the day October 12

Does matter
Does not matter
a soul is trapped
in lives of matter
But what matters
in each life of matter
is how the soul
controls the matter

poem of the day October 10

Took a while
in the frosty cold
to fix the light
of a freezing sunrise
Dawn tried
many different hues
before settling on
a very beautiful warm one

poem of the day October 9

the familiar sound
of wild chainsaws
rattling the woods
of New England
is music to wood stoves
but very scary to
all those trees
living in the forest
hoping they
are not next

poem of the day October 8

The face
within
the mask
peeks out
of a soul
through
the eyes
of the I
There
the inner
face & I
are hidden
from view by
a mask
of one's own
creation

poem of the day October 7

So many minds
floating within
consciousness
of every life
cultured mind
ignorant mind
wild mind
tame mind
strong mind
weak mind
open mind
closed mind
So many
to choose
Which one
which two
three?
A dart is thrown
light opens
sometimes bright
sometimes flickering
then off and running
sorting options
some shine
some dull
some heaven
some hell
All minds
from the well

poem of the day October 6

Owls hooting
in a near full moon
The light was grand
as the owls sang
The moon illuminated
over well lite trees
making it very easy
for the owls to see
I thought of all
the hiding mice
wondering how many
lived the night

poem of the day October 5

Slanting
a new sport
all you need
is a surfboard
full of lies
to skate down
money grubbing platforms
with no regard
at all for the truth
In silly costumes
dressed as cartoons
to capture
the rhythms
of power
of persuasion
to feed the emotions
of fearful souls
into blind submission

poem of the day October 4

where we
all end up
someplace together
where everything
finds completion
same boat
same ocean
same sun
in different minds
but  all attending
the same party
and no matter
how hard one tries
or fights against it
eventual melting
into the same melting pot

poem of the day October 3

I wonder
how many
raindrops
make it
to the sea
The long journey
from rain
to runoff
to stream
to river
Over all those
precarious miles
Dodging thirsty  plants
deadend lakes
and a relentless  sun
Then for those drops
that finally make it
How do they merge
with the salty sea?

poem of the day October 2

The houseplants
are watching
the sunrise
nice and warm
from inside
looking at fragile
sisters & brothers
Summer annuals
waiting to see
if they made it
through the cold night
The houseplants don't say it
but all are very happy
to be sitting by me

poem of the day October 1 Deep inside

Deep inside
every human soul
lives the universe
An omniscient  place
where light & love
merge into perfection
yet is a place
sometimes very
hard to reach
when clouded
by fears of failing
