a blue jay

a robin

a cardinal

and a chickadee

were outside my window

oblivious of me

the robin was worming

the bluejay was loud

the chickadee was tiny

the cardinal was proud

i thought of the birds

as they flew around the farm

wondering what they thought

of this mid April dawn

twins sentries

rises up

the hump

of midweek

illuminating

thrill of 

daffodil

yellow star

of everywhere

open spring

sunlight sign

Before doors

before there was

a solid separation

between in and out

How did one know

if they were

entering or exiting 

coming or going

opening or closing

arriving or leaving

evolved 

animal mind

to embrace

the ego

of delusion

to which it seems

only humans

are in possession of

of energy is

spent on 

very determined 

tunnel vision folly

where the power of

misguided dreams

flow out of the fountain

under extreme pressure

fueled by the emotions

of unbridled power

that sweeps up 

all those within the way
