poem of the day October 16

When they cut
down the tree
all those years ago
I thought
they had cut it too high
Left too much stump
It was an eye sore
on a beautiful
New England road
For thirty years
I forgot about the stump
as it stood rotting
Summer Winter
Spring and Fall
But yesterday
as I drove the road
the stump stood
on the side
looking like
a serenading wolf
Howling to the wilderness
Strange how time
changes everything
Now I am happy
they did not
chop it all the way down
