poem of the day December 31

The old ending
The new beginning
Souls all stirring
their homemade stew
Happy sad ingredients
sprinkled with time
It does not matter
if the long song rhymes

poem of the day December 30

In the moment
there is time
or no time
depending if you are
thinking about something
while living something else
The waves break on the shore
not bounded by the size of giant shrimp
I saw the  many possibilities while
staring at nothing new but new nothings
allowing me to realize
What I see
What you see
has no power over present reality

poem of the day December 29

I am searching
for the perfect stone
as I walk the coast
Thousands of footsteps
over the rocky shore
Nudging water lapping
at the edge of the tide
There I see my prize
the most beautiful
blue round earth sphere
I reach for eternity but
a rogue waves comes
out of fate and when
it recedes the stone

has disappeared

poem of the day December 28

I was looking
at old pictures
as I imagine everyone has
Not ones of ancestors
but strange souls  aboard a ship
How smug some looked
in a regal  aura of air
How tired some looked
with untouched hair
I thought of life captured
under the pressure
of all lost moments
once lived on our star
Their memories were frozen
but the world has traveled far

poem of the day December 27

Drips seeping
from rigid fountains
All primed with hate
Left hate
Right hate
Hike the money ball greed
The great fish bowl fight
over the flavored water
both need to breath
Seems really strange
so much emotional pain
used to spike convenient  morality
while we lose the soul
without knowing it
one drop at a time

poem of the day December 26

What to think of a thinker
takes a lot of thinking
about what thinking is
Is it a set of facts
a memorized dazzle
spouted by pontificators
well dressed and
sitting on the same fence?
Is it the fool on the hill
drinking cannonballs
full of spontaneous wisdom
without anyone to listen?
Is it full or empty?
Is it needed or not?
One thought is for sure
All this thinking
has cluttered my mind
It is time to turn on the TV

poem of the day December 25

There is a calm
a certain ephemeral
quick silver
I feel every Christmas
up early before
the excited storm
Everyone still asleep
The silent tree lit
with red and green lights
flickering the play between stop and go
I sit on this see-saw of memories and anticipation
blended into the magic pulse
found only on Christmas time

poem of the day December 24

It was the maybe
in the be may
The maybe of be me only
that had the world on edge
It was very easily seen
on either side
of the self imposed fence
The very beautiful mirrored wall
was full of insulated bricks
Full of emotional cracks
that shouted out anger
to all those souls
living in torment
Nothing but hate
was allowed to spread
over the righteous sea
Yet everyone did agree
on one thing that was
not maybe but be may

Misery  loves company

poem of the day December 23

Sunset on the famous
Santa Monica pier
I am surrounded by
paparazzi taking
pictures of themselves
The pier is so crowded
I can't walk two steps
without being in
someone's selfie
The sun is cut flat
Impressive big orange
falling into the pacific
A beautiful Christmas ornament
for the many tourists
The only ones not impressed
by all the excitement
are the fishermen
focused only on their baited rods
in hope of catching supper

poem of the day December 22

I was looking
at the silhouettes flicker
on the white wall
as the sun shown
through the vines
growing on the
ugly  fence that
guarded the house
from itself
It transformed
the stark reality
of urban city life
into works of art
only seen during
the light of a Los Angeles day

poem of the day December 21

For a look into the well
One has to peer deep
inside the inner tube
where battles rage day and night
fueled by the light of life
To get past that door
some use a rainbow candle

but be careful not to have too many handles

poem of the day December 20

I was inside
the castle
trying to turn
on the light
I did not know
which switch
was wrong
which switch
was right
I guess it depends
on the rest of my mood
whether I light
the room for what it is
or light only what I see

poem of the day December 19

Only a few more
days of dark
until the light returns
A strong long pulse
A strong long breath
The Earth swings back
toward the sun
like a pendulium
changing the guards
within all of us
as we adjust
our  fragile emotional lines
to the rhythms of time

poem of the day December 18

It is hard to be perfect
humanly impossible
I certainly am not
but I am able
to enjoy all
the perfect robots
as they walk
down the runway
in machines judged
by the imperfection
of  imperfect man

poem of the day December 17

Fiddle or Violin
depends upon
the mind within
So serious
So whimsical
One instrument
of wooden wings
with different music
played by four same strings
An Irish Reel
A Classical Quartet
Uplifting dreams
to somber cries
Opposite shores
of the same wave
Who takes the bow
to play the band
decides the instrument
in their hand

poem of the day December 16

I like the way
the sun puts
a glaze on the snow
illuminating the whiteness
into splendid winter candy
Reminds me of yummy doughnuts
all sinful and glistening
Makes me want to go out
and sink my boots into a mouthful

poem of the day December 15

Icicles drape the windows
A hundred samurais
with sharpen spears
slowly grow between a few degrees
on either side of frozen
In these times it reminds me of life
Where armies wait for orders
guarding parallel lines between
a few degrees of love and hate
slowly dripping towards war one drop at a time

poem of the day December 14

I picked up a penny today
It was face down but I thought that was OK
I immediately decided to play the lottery
I spend two bucks on a scratch game
one where you had to get some numbers the same
I got everyone but the one I needed and ended up
with a two dollar loss so I took the penny
and gave it a toss cause I should have remembered
a face down penny means its luck had been lost

poem of the day December 13

Sometimes miracles happen
and subconscious conscience
allows good to triumph over evil
Allowing the true God to stop
bigots preaching as godly men
Yes Virginia there is a Santa Claus
SWEET HOME ALABAMA!

poem of the day December 12

A fine example
inside of you
Inside of me
just waiting to express
illusive creativity
We just have to find it
under all the skins we wear
from Mary Poppins
to Fred Astaire
It can not be touched
by rays of thought
by lighting candles
in the dark
It has to come from the well
where deep within the bones of marrow
lives the secret of the channel

Monday, December 11, 2017

poem of the day December 11

Why are elections
now like a godly revival?
Is it because
every hotel room
has a bible?
Often found in the drawer
between the beds
the new book of scriptures says
the Virgin Mary gives good head

poem of the day December 10

The blanket covered everything
with a stillness of pure white
It covered branches like yin to yang
It fell into the cracks of the stonewall
clinging to the ledges like salt to pepper
The road was plowed by big machines
that spread the blanket into white like mounds
lining the road with new dimensions
The stillness sank deep into the meadow
draping the milkweed like fine cotton curtains
The sky grey white with little light reflecting
held the first winter snow like a mother holding
a new born wrapped in a world of stark purity
The only blemish on the white winter world was the blue jay
flying like it always does toward dawn

poem of the day December 9

Underrated pleasures abound
Even in these most troubling times
They let you forget about
World War, famine, disease
All apocalyptic predictions
that can unsettle even a settler
All you have to do is sit back and enjoy
The morning sun hitting your face
A hot long shower after a dirty day
The pleasure of dinner with friends
A refreshing swim on a summer lake
All things that do not take any effort
except allowing yourself to feel
the bliss of catching a fish

poem of the day December 8

I feel the pulse
of the Earth
every morning
just as night
turns to day
I feel the throb of life
the exhale of the old
the inhale of the new
Blessed light from the fountain
as it opens my mountain

poem of the day December 7

Everybody wants to be an old soul
whether or not they remember
or even believe in past lives
But why does everybody want to be an old soul?
Because old souls are wise from many lifetimes
and know the many passages of time
But why is that an aspiring virtue?
Does not it mean you have been
reliving the same stale karma for generations
soul trapped on the wheel of suffering?
Maybe it is better to be a new soul
A fresh visitor just out of the primordial womb
able to feel the intense purity of first life

poem of the day December 6

Beacons of hypocrisy
swim among tides of evil
Godly men with young harems
living out fantasies
eat  black and white cake from
the lips of  angry riotous sinners
All hoping the pretend emperor
will throw his pretend clothes
down to the floor of the desperate

poem of the day December 5

Perspective
swinging on the
perch of opinion
had many faces
as it clung to all
sorts of jagged ideas
born from the combination
of emotion and power
manipulated by false gods who wore robes
of big flat loud barking angry screens
that had no real foundation
other then mortal words
in which to control  lost souls
wanting only to belong but
unable to think for themselves

poem of the day December 4

Still calm no storm
cold December morn
Wood stove toasty
as I  look through
frosty windows
on to trees
that appear
stark naked against
the grey of today

Sunday, December 3, 2017

poem of the day December 3

Increase and decrease
some weird type of pulse
that hangs like mist
on light falling rain
Neither wet nor dry
with no place to hide
time builds  a river
full of locks  controling
the flow of all boats
that are riding these
changing waves
with their sails full of breath

poem of the day December 2

What pony would you pick
if you had to pick real quick?
Which pony would you choose
if you had nothing left to lose?
What pony would you ride
if  time was on your side?
And finally for all to see
Which pony would you hug
if you only had one to love?

poem of the day December 1

A familiar song
opens pathways
inside the soul
A flash back to
driving over the hill
in search of old friends
living within the same song
Time comes flooding back
and although those memories
are many miles long gone
they live each time I hear the song

poem of the day November 30

The Earth was on life support
floating in space bloated
from too much indigestion
The green house gasses
stunk and could be smelt
from many planets away
Dr Jupiter took time out of
revolving the Sun to make
his very dire diagnose
The Earth was going to die
unless she killed the cancer
The humans had spread
to every part of her body
and kept growing and growing
Dr Jupiter knowing there was not much time
prescribed an aggressive experimental  treatment
Immediate meteor showers
Followed by yearly blasts of solar radiation

poem of the day November 29

Uncharted boats that travel
with constant oars of fear
have little thought of self direction
Helpless to the whim of rapids
Afraid of each whirling pool
Not knowing they are
floating on the river
Not part of the turbulent waters
that gather against the tide of life
The  ruthlessness boat helpless
unable to free the praying captain
Unable to understand clarity
that captains have to free themselves

poem of the day November 28

Something as simple
as a relaxed smile
can change the
point of view
on even those harden
lizard lips that
have spent a lifetime
barking orders
from an angry mind
Allowing the smile
deep into the heart
can change hate into love
so all can be well within the temple

poem of the day November 27

The twist tries to work
on the old grand line
trying to change
the familiar pattern
The one that brings
shame even to the
thick skinned church sinners
who in the end
are only thinking about
themselves while
riding the leaking boat
full of whole holy holes
How long that battle lasts
before the dreams sink
depends on the essence
The angle of right and wrong

poem of the day November 26

I was drinking tea
with a sage that
had walked lifetimes
in shoes of all sizes
all colors
all styles
The sage said it does not
matter if the shoes fit perfectly
on my feet or your feet
or if one has feet at all
All that matters is that
one understands each lifetime
and the shoes needed to carry your well being
over roads made one step at a time

poem of the day November 25

At a certain light
sometime after sunset
the intensity of approaching darkness
turns the sky into a primordial canvas
filled with the silhouette of naked November trees
Every detail of their ethereal branches fan toward heaven
Their dark veins rising strong from the womb of earth
I am very aware of this special blue hue light
as it pours through the royal crown of rooted trees

poem of the day November 24

This poem is
for all those who
have stumped spellcheck
Rejoice in knowing you
have done your part
in stopping the machines
from taking over the
evolution of human imperfection
Today the machines call
someone like me illiterate
but be patient,  just wait
Someday the machines will need
imperfect savants to bring
new words into a new word order
Words with great perfection
and deep sincere meaning
such as my favorite "Icanots"

poem of the day November 23

Someone is yelling at someone
who is yelling at someone
The world is full of unsettled fears
that come and go
with bursts of misunderstanding
The yelling a chanting
The early tribal call
The anger is not lost in the wilderness
but in the traffic flow
The screeched horn of Sunday
elevated by the preaching band
grows the tempo to loud kernels
full of amplified baseless fears
just the noise of the situation brings us
to the abyss of constant tears

poem of the day November 22

All on the life boat
navigating the endless storm
Everyone pulled in
untethered  directions
One  storm after another
Anger storm
Fear storm
Jealous storm
Anxious storm
An ocean of worry
made of the Whether or Not
found inside of all Earthly Sailors
trying to sail the anchored  light

poem of the day November 21

The statue came alive
every morning after five
It had been placed long ago
by a window facing east
where it waited frozen
full of dream like thoughts
in the body of a ballerina
stolen from the imperial court
At a certain time the sun burst forth
to illuminate her angel face
and even though she did not move
Her cheeks flushed in warm embrace
but when the sun drifted away
she returned to those dreams
The frozen thoughts of yesterday

poem of the day November 20

It started with
one big happy family
carving themselves
a place in the universe
They worked together
on the fertile fields
removing rock after rock
eventually taming the wilderness
They organized the many rocks
piling them on top of each other
Over time without any one noticing
the pile grew so high
it turned into a mighty wall
Separating the land into two
Separating the family into two
but there was so much plenty
no one seemed to care
And after a few generations
no one knew each other
or the life on the other side of the wall
Then a giant storm came
turning the land of plenty
into the land of little
and that was when the war began

poem of the day November 19

So an answer
to a question
is the normal
way we rhyme
But only if we
answer them
are they not a
waste of time

poem of the day November 18

The universes is speaking
about the direction of rape
How Men are always animals
from the Planet of the Apes
The Yang of every situation
includes the Yin of our mistakes
We all need to remember this
when walking toward the gate
that God if there is one
decides our cosmic fate
but if he really isn't a reality
then we must all drain this lake

poem of the day November 17

Romeo and Juliet
Louis and Marie Antoinette
Couples I have never met
Couples that were so in love
they died together in romantic floods
I don't know much about their tragic lives
but just like the gangsters Bonnie and Clyde
I know every circumstance of how they died

poem of the day November 16

Icicles on the cliff
hung over the hair pin curve
like long broad swords
waiting for Camelot
The arctic freeze
turned water drops into
strong young spines that
threatened to plunge
through the heart of
each passing car
such is the power of least resistance

Wednesday, November 15, 2017

poem of the day November 15

It was another mass extinction
caused by well intention men
We all knew yet ignored the signs
We all did very little to stop it
We were all too busy to care
caught up with desire
the lust for a rich cozy life
full of ease, contentment with very little thought
little free  thinking about anything
except the lust for more artificial skin
Everybody cried out but it was too late
to save the last original idea

poem of the day November 14

The art of picking perfection
the fruit of being perfect
is in the hands of man
that is where the problem stands
for what I want for my perfect plate
likely differs from your perfect fate
and because we attach ourselves
to the wall of living lives
What makes me crow
might make you cry

Monday, November 13, 2017

poem of the day November 13

The old meadow rock
still sitting out there
surrounded by friends of grass
basking in the late afternoon sun
looked especially relaxed
So much so that I thought
I detected a knowing
stone like smile on it's granite lips

Sunday, November 12, 2017

poem of the day November 12

Ideas disappear
Places disappear
People disappear
It is all part of the flowers
The blooming of time
Each year the cords
slip further into the brine
marinating shiny new shoes
carrying a part of you away
from the lives of yesterday
Oh how I wish to be back
in the primordial shack
eating apples with a friend
before the buoys were
lost at sea

Saturday, November 11, 2017

poem of the day November 11

A blend of light
upon the cold dawn
The welcome stillness
like a blanket covering
wind tired leaves
that yesterday had been
alive and dancing
I am among the waking souls
stirring within the hearth
watching the silent solitude
open the stark simplicity of fall

Friday, November 10, 2017

poem of the day November 10

I'm on a diet
I can't believe it
I have to lose
the Taoist belly
I have cultivated
over many years of delusion
The diet was going really good
until I ate some chicken fingers
After the first greasy bite
I knew I had sinned
But I could not stop
the exquisite guilty pleasure
of eating forbidden fruit
The chicken fingers were great
The best I've ever had
It was then I understood
what everybody on
a diet already knows
Cheating makes diets great
Who wouldn't sin for some chocolate cake

poem of the day November 9

The lure of an island
surrounded by danger
Unreachable swells
misunderstood
like vintage sailors
on a ghost ship
Not quite antique
but old enough
to know life from death

poem of the day November 8

A flake or two
has mixed with dew
I sit and admire
the difference
between the two
So beautiful
Tiny snow drop
so perfect in your world
A frozen speck
A one of a kind
A fragile gift from heaven
Pearly white
sitting on morning's
carpet of dew
Essence of earth
providing a glistening stew
as I watch a sister as she melts from view

poem of the day November 7

It was a fad
just like the other fads
and I was afraid
I would once again miss the train
People were painting
their big toes red
and buying expensive glass boots
so they could bask in
the latest nonsense of vanity
the latest edge of insanity
where we all secretly wish to be seen
This time I had joined the line early
and was full of anticipation
as I waited for my paint job
but when I finally reached the front
they ran out of paint so once
again I missed a faded fate

poem of the day November 6

There is a new war out there
I have been watching
the bodies all lined up
on the evening news
59 DEAD
8 DEAD
26 DEAD
Each week the causalities keep adding up
fueled by the Angel of Death
riding the Horse of Hate
Not on a distant shore
but in the HEART of America
the Land of the Great

poem of the day November 5

An extra hour
to look at the flowers
How silly man
tries to command
illusive time that
keeps ticking
whether or not
we have turned
back the clock

Saturday, November 4, 2017

poem of the day November 4

Orange pink glow
in the morning sky
White ground frost
with green blades
of meadow grass
The silhouetted trees
are brown without leaves
Blue wisps emerging
from clouds of grey
as I begin this autumn day

poem of the day November 3

A cord of wood
A music cord
A power cord
The cord of life
The umbilical cord
that connects all cords
I think I'll have a cordial or two
to contemplate these cords of fate
