poem of the day June 20


A deer was wagging her tail
by the side of the road
no more than twenty feet away
like a friendly Bambi
not afraid of me at all
Ten years ago
she would have run
at a gallop toward the sun
I did not know what to think
Was it good?
Was it bad?
Happy or sad?
I hope she knew not to trust every human
who drives by
