poem of the day October 30

A mattress
in a hotel
belonging to
no one body
Covered each night
by only the skin
of clean sheets
has sagged from
the weight of
many a traveler
Absorbing minds
from all over
the spiral of souls
Do these dreams
of road pilgrims
become ghosts
that come to life each night
in strange out of time dreams?

poem of the day October 29

It was
the most
ghoulish
reality show ever
but sadly
the most watched
reality show ever
Death Row Dinners
Each  execution
an iron celebrity chef
would turn the
last meal request
of the condemned
into a memorial final feast
worthy of a lasting last supper
It was so popular
that many were
lobbying it as a
moral reason to keep
the death penalty

poem of the day October 28

All those boats
on a finger lake
look like water bugs
with sails rocking
in the wind of plenty
I see them playing
tag with each other
as I remember the past

poem of the day October 27

The way the hill
looked in the rain
reminded me of fate
Each drop a path
of twists and turns
as water found its place
it joined with others in
the field that mankind
once did sow
A place where dreams
turn into streams
that often come and go

poem of the day October 26

To get away
with everything
tempts even
a holy man
A string of pearls
circles the world
with riches from
from every land
These treasures belong
to everyone
but greed has
made them prized
Where these
dangling gems
tempt certain men
who chase them
till they die

poem of the day October 25

The day is quite
a shade of grey
The rain falling
soft and tame
The few leaves
that still remain
poke out of time
to blend within
this blanket fog
so perfectly so I can see
the souls of barren logs

poem of the day October 24

The frost appeared
on the window pane
iced and very cold
The meadow green
had a thin white shine
that made it look real old
I looked upon this night of change
like one would a tide
and thought about all the plants
that may or may not have survived

poem of the day October 23

I watched the leaves
all afternoon
fall swiftly in
a northern wind
born somewhere
cool from Canada
The air so fresh
so full of change
cold front comes
into range

poem of the day October 22

full moons
have good light
on a good night
I am able to see
the man on the moon
big and very yellow
quite a jolly old fellow

poem of the day October 21

The storm cloud
do not look
like democracy
It was full of
self serving greed
The poor sun was overwhelmed
by the dark blanket of rage
The fragile law of equality
lost its balance as the world began to return
to the survival of the evilest

poem of the day October 20

October morning
Dogs in the meadow
Grass  greener
than Ireland
Emerald green
looking for Leprechauns
Still no frost

poem of the day October 19

To understand
every pore
best to know
every door
What to open
What to close
from bellybutton
to tips of toes
but first thing first
Stand feet real close
Check the left
Check the right
Up and down
Which is stronger
left or right?
Merge the weak
into the strong
hold them together
and re-read this poem

poem of the day October 18

An autumn leaf
full of summer
full of grand color
falls into the river
floating effortlessly
on the rain fed current
I watched the leaf move
down toward the sea
using the rush of water
to slip back and forth
from side to side
bounded like all things
but like all things free to glide
on a magic carpet ride

poem of the day October 17 Late Autumn sun

Late Autumn sun
Thick mellow breeze
Still green meadow
No frost on horizon
Strange to see
so many happy flowers
happy as can be

poem of the day October 16

The sky looked
like a golden cage
as the sun reflected
off the underbelly
of a rippled cloud
reinforcing the idea
that we are bounded
to our Mother Earth
somewhere on a beautiful journey

poem of the day October 15

An old gathering post
in the center of town
has long been neglected
and is now rundown
What color to paint
a post from the  past
is a difficult question
one has to ask
With so many coats
of the same old color
change is hard
from one to another
Do we refresh
the color we knew
or try painting uncharted
into something brand new
Does an old idea need
to consider its tradition
when painting a post
is a future decision

poem of the day October 14

A circle of hearts
The coming, going
beat of humanity
Hearts traveling from
circle to circle
into endless circles
always showing up
with other hearts
in other circles
Sometime friends
Sometimes strangers
all round hearts
live in chambers
Round and Round
the hearts do go
circle into circle
the humanity flow

poem of the day October 13

When standing
in the meadow
relaxing with a friend
thinking about meditation
while talking about Zen
Our WA was suddenly interrupted
by a loud  thunderous crash
coming deep from the forest
We listened until it passed
We ran to see what made
this earth shaking clatter
Soon we came upon
the reason for the matter
A huge giant pine had toppled loudly to the ground
proving a tree falling alone in the forest does make a sound

poem of the day October 12

Stone walls
of unknown
artist farmers
dot New England
Forgotten hands
leave behind
a beautiful reminder
of daily toil
Making art out of
the endless necessity
of having to move the rocks
to grow the crops

poem of the day October 11

As the leaves of color
fall off their branches
As the canopy slowly
sheds its summer shield
The trees begin the return
to their true nature
Vulnerable  Naked
Each flaw exposed
allowing me to
see deep into the soul
of a sleeping forest

poem of the day October 10

I dreamed a civil war
was on the horizon
I was watching a grand see-saw
full of tribes debating
the rise and fall
of love and hate
Each up and down
was filled with crowds thinking
their idea of love was better
than their idea of love
It was very confusing and
did nothing except
anger everybody
into riding the wave of hate

poem of the day October 9

I like the way
old black and white
photos look
Everything so simple
just shades of grey
no distraction of colors
It allows me the window
to gaze beyond the photo
to peer into the soul of a picture
instead of focusing on surface colors
inspiring me to imagine the light of inner rainbows

poem of the day October 8 Early fog

Early fog
lingers over
October day
bringing
grey times
to a morning
waiting for
the strength
of an angled sun

poem of the day October 7

With a world
now full of
disinformation
alternative facts
and not being
able or willing
to plum the truth
I want to confirm
to all those listening
The point of
a pointed object
is the point

poem of the day October 6

air so fresh
mind empty
the merging
of thought
and wind
mix in morning light

poem of the day October 5

The rain was
exceptionally wet
I watched the illusion
cover autumn dusk as it
glistened very slippery
on yellow leaves
of old sugar maples
I made me think
of soggy atmosphere
and the shades of all  things wet

poem of the day October 4

Rain was feeling
different all afternoon
strong and soft
but neither taking control
Until the sun
poked through
but that held for
just a small while
then it was back
to the same old indecision

poem of the day October 3

Air seemed
very October
Leaves seemed
very October too
There was
an atmosphere
full of anticipation
sort of bittersweet
cold coming  through
yet when the day
turned very sunny
and I felt warmth
on my face
it gave me pause
to think of seasons
and how they change
at their own pace

poem of the day October 2 Occasionally

Occasionally
Time will fly
incognito into
big crowded rooms
full of clocks
that have lost
their hands
Making it
impossible
for anyone
to tell if even
one second
has passed

 poem of the day October

Ideas grow
in all kinds
of fertile soil
A bean with
the same dream
of freedom
planted miles apart
nurtured by unrest
will bear a different fruit
than one watered in truth
yet both are food for thought
