poem of the day May 9

Do legacy plants have a right
to be part of the landscape?
Part of a homestead yard?
This rag tag inherited
collection of Plants
handed down
through families
Brought to new homes
generation after generation
are a bridge from the past
I have plants in my own family
passed down
from property to property
from father to son
since long before the civil war
Pachysandra I can trace
back to Brooklyn 1840's
Forsythia  too and
Lilies of the the valley
came from Mineola where
Dead Nettle and Wild Onions
hitched rides and found
their way to me via Connecticut
They are part of my journey
but do I pass these plants on
to the next family home
knowing all are invasive
to various degrees?
