poem of the day February 28

Misplaced values
are placed on
worthless things
like designer clothes
bitcoin and golden rings
None of  that
is needed except
to park money
in a world
of want and gluttony
Why just yesterday I read
about an auction of sneakers
expected to fetch world record prices
It was next to an article
about a big push to clean up
homeless tent cities
that were ruining the Wa
of certain neighborhoods
Sad that greed is more
popular than compassion

poem of the day February 27

Everyday thoughts
Everyday toils
come to life
in the drift and mingle
of everyday light
The emerging of dawn
awakens the soul
to our daily clutter as
the subconscious retreats
Overwhelmed
by the reality
of morning pressures
of being sun slave
to one's personal karma
that lives in
those spaces
impossible for dreams to cover

poem of the day February 26

I poet red
about an invention
that I read
or made up
3rd or 4th hand
Yet so genius
for those who
live for a good
long soothing soak
Bringing your own inflatable
easy to fold
bath tub on
road trips when
you travel
Wouldn't it be grand
to relax in a clean tub
An always super sterile vessel
full of hot water
you have already paid for
Especially after a long day
of driving down the dirty road
But then again
perhaps my idea
is too yesterday
with too much
precious water
flowing over the dam
And is an indulgence too far
if one is too woke about saving the planet

 poem of the day

A weird dream
in a highway motel
Have you had one?
Freak quaint
frequent occurrences
that come to life
in certain rooms
Are they fueled
by thoughts, vibes
found in the minds
of other wayward travelers
dreaming similar visions?
Something left behind
by Guests who stayed in
those rooms full of
strange dreams
from nowhere?
Are they a human hybrid?
An ethereal merging
of room and soul?
A patina witnessed
by Gideon's bible
but only when the eyes flutter?

poem of the day February 24

What is left
of the giants
The ancient
redwood souls
from long ago
still look down
from grand heights
overlooking the pacific
with needles
full of wisdom
full of spirituality
that predate jesus

poem of the day February 23

The excitement
of driving over
the Golden Gate Bridge
is dampened by
the black hole of Alcatraz
The island dominates the bay
even to this day
The pain of evil
coming off the rock
Reaches into everyone
who looks down
to feel the ghosts
of human suffering

poem of the day February 22

The world
is so big
Impossible
to understand
Except in
the small mind
of delusion
This omnipotent
dilemma of
misunderstanding
when  mixed with
the ego of
human emotion
provides a road map
of extinction
Time to throw away
all plans before
we reach the cliffs
of lemmings

poem of the day February 21

The difference
between
photos and
paintings
is the way
emotion is
captured
One looks
outside in
One looks
inside out
The same view
of the grand stew
is stirred by
the eye of I
or by
the eye of lens
both make
good art
that can hang
on to your mind

poem of the day February 20

Buying
Shopping
Discarding
The superficial world
revolves around
being told to
want more
Where the waste
of things neglected
for something as frivolous
as a whiter shade of pale
makes for a culture
of unintended misery
where it is easy to
drown in the insatiable rain

poem of the day February 19

Invasive plants
that thrive
cover the past
like invasive humans
leaving very
little of the old landscape
I wonder as I,
a white boy hiking
trails full of flora
that came all the way
from Europe
What will be left
of civilization once
Artificial intelligence
take over the sentient mind?
Now is the time to
Sage against the Machine

poem of the day February 18

God and Dog
revolve around
the same sun
Separated by
an imperfect
perfect circle
This wobble
of emotion
keeps the two
opposites apart
Forever chasing
each other as
they vie for
the souls of
men and mice

poem of the day February 17 A common eye

A common eye
is hard to find
with too many
looking from
too many minds
Standing firm
in what they see
in a world that flashes
light and dark
All lenses covered
by clouded thoughts
that distort the present
light of reality

poem of the day February 16

I have always
wondered what
happens
while looking
for a needle
in a haystack
When all of a sudden
you scream out in pain
finding the needle
embedded in your flesh
Finding it was not hard
at all to find
Will the sudden
extreme hurt
overcome
the happiness
of finding the needle?
or is that the point
of all suffering?

poem of the day February 15

Watching bubbles
of maple sap
boil with a
rap tap tap
Golden bubbles
big and long
evaporate until
their gone
What is left
is an amber stream
a taste of nature
sublime serene

poe of the day February 14

Are magic things
common or rare?
I guess  it depends
on where you stare
and also perhaps
your point of view
of all things mysterious
in the milky land stew

poem of the day Febuary 13

How a path
turns into
a highway
is more than
just lanes
and blacktop
Somehow all those
ancient footprints
long forgotten
lead the way
to destinations
now taken for granted

poem of the day February 12

The change
of water
fresh into salt
The river rushes
around the rim
over rocks that
have been worn
by many lifetimes
One drop in the sea
goes a long way
changing what will be
A little dab of dew
is the difference
between me or you

poem of the day February 11 The line laid out

The line laid out
to catch a fish
might not hook
the one it seeks
In a random world
of give and take
the schools of thought
packed in like dreams
all swim around a tempting bait
The attraction is not
for a single race
and does not decide
another's fate

poem of the day February 10

The art of rooting
of using the ground
as the source of balance
Deep veins of mind
sink into a virgin earth
to  provide a solid foundation
that rises up like a tree
All you have to do
is stand and think of chi

poem of the day Febuary 9

I've spent
the last
couple of days
with Maple Trees
in late winter snow
The weather was warm
The sap did flow
I put my lips to
on the end of a tap
and sucked the juice
right from the tree
knowing the sugar water
wasn't meant for me

poem of the day February 8

In a tiny car mirror
A cardinal
very handsome
looking very red
was banging his head
on a reflection of himself
He banged so hard
his beak drew blood
and I thought
why is he beating
himself to a pulp
Did he not like
the way he looked
all decked out in red
or was he jealous
of another side of himself

poem of the day February 7

a cycle
a circle
a spiral
a revolution
a gyration
an orbit
of time
Round
by rounds
all things go
But few
can ride
the spinning flow

poem of the day February 6

War the ultimate
manifestation
of ultimate anger
The pinnacle
and culmination  of
raw violent
out of control
human emotion
is fought
in the trenches
by soldiers
consumed with fear
This primordial
one two punch
when combined with
hand to hand combat
of kill or be killed
can turn even the most
innocent soldiers
into out of control killers
creating spirals of
never ending hate
"What a waste" God said
as he puffed on his regret

poem of the day Febuary 5

The uncertain
future of everything
The art of knowing what
will happen
perhaps is found
in a cup of tea
or coffee grounds
weather reports
or tarot cards
Is it wishing in the wishing well
Or divining what the future tells
Can it pick the joker from the queen
to glean the reality of the dream

poem of the day Febuary 4

Still and cold
Wind and cold
A  push and pull
of  winter chill
I saw a little bird
with tiny little legs
all puffed out
in its feather jacket
looking so still and miserable
reminded me of me
as a little frozen kid
freezing at the school bus stop

poem of the day February 3

A comet of 50,000 years ago
has appeared in the February sky
Where has it been?
What worlds has it traveled?
Does it carry hitchhikers?
Perhaps some space junk
revolving around a distant planet
unknown to us Earthlings?
How does it remember
the same highway
in a Milky Way full
of stars that all look the same?
Are there celestial road signs
space grooves to light the way?
Does a comet ever take a path less traveled?

poem of the day February 2

If you only
had one apple
Would eat
it all at once?
Would you savor the taste
one slice at a time?
Would you wait for perfect ripeness?
Would you spend happy days
worshipping, anticipating apple perfection?
So much that apple
ends up rotting
and having to be fed
to Phil the Groundhog?

poem of the day Febuary 1

First Rabbit day
in the Rabbit year
would be
a good time
to paint the near
To see what lies
within your world
instead of hopping
each and every train
Use your sunrise
as a palette change
To find more
within the less
is another way
to be your best
