poem of the day February 28

Misplaced values
are placed on
worthless things
like designer clothes
bitcoin and golden rings
None of that
is needed except
to park money
in a world
of want and gluttony
Why just yesterday I read
about an auction of sneakers
expected to fetch world record prices
It was next to an article
about a big push to clean up
homeless tent cities
that were ruining the Wa
of certain neighborhoods
Sad that greed is more
popular than compassion

poem of the day February 27
Everyday thoughts
Everyday toils
come to life
in the drift and mingle
of everyday light
The emerging of dawn
awakens the soul
to our daily clutter as
the subconscious retreats
Overwhelmed
by the reality
of morning pressures
of being sun slave
to one's personal karma
that lives in
those spaces
impossible for dreams to cover

poem of the day February 26
I poet red
about an invention
that I read
or made up
3rd or 4th hand
Yet so genius
for those who
live for a good
long soothing soak
Bringing your own inflatable
easy to fold
bath tub on
road trips when
you travel
Wouldn't it be grand
to relax in a clean tub
An always super sterile vessel
full of hot water
you have already paid for
Especially after a long day
of driving down the dirty road
But then again
perhaps my idea
is too yesterday
with too much
precious water
flowing over the dam
And is an indulgence too far
if one is too woke about saving the planet

poem of the day
A weird dream
in a highway motel
Have you had one?
Freak quaint
frequent occurrences
that come to life
in certain rooms
Are they fueled
by thoughts, vibes
found in the minds
of other wayward travelers
dreaming similar visions?
Something left behind
by Guests who stayed in
those rooms full of
strange dreams
from nowhere?
Are they a human hybrid?
An ethereal merging
of room and soul?
A patina witnessed
by Gideon's bible
but only when the eyes flutter?

poem of the day February 19
Invasive plants
that thrive
cover the past
like invasive humans
leaving very
little of the old landscape
I wonder as I,
a white boy hiking
trails full of flora
that came all the way
from Europe
What will be left
of civilization once
Artificial intelligence
take over the sentient mind?
Now is the time to
Sage against the Machine

poem of the day February 16
I have always
wondered what
happens
while looking
for a needle
in a haystack
When all of a sudden
you scream out in pain
finding the needle
embedded in your flesh
Finding it was not hard
at all to find
Will the sudden
extreme hurt
overcome
the happiness
of finding the needle?
or is that the point
of all suffering?

poem of the day February 8
In a tiny car mirror
A cardinal
very handsome
looking very red
was banging his head
on a reflection of himself
He banged so hard
his beak drew blood
and I thought
why is he beating
himself to a pulp
Did he not like
the way he looked
all decked out in red
or was he jealous
of another side of himself

poem of the day February 6
War the ultimate
manifestation
of ultimate anger
The pinnacle
and culmination of
raw violent
out of control
human emotion
is fought
in the trenches
by soldiers
consumed with fear
This primordial
one two punch
when combined with
hand to hand combat
of kill or be killed
can turn even the most
innocent soldiers
into out of control killers
creating spirals of
never ending hate
"What a waste" God said
as he puffed on his regret

poem of the day Febuary 5
The uncertain
future of everything
The art of knowing what
will happen
perhaps is found
in a cup of tea
or coffee grounds
weather reports
or tarot cards
Is it wishing in the wishing well
Or divining what the future tells
Can it pick the joker from the queen
to glean the reality of the dream

poem of the day February 3
A comet of 50,000 years ago
has appeared in the February sky
Where has it been?
What worlds has it traveled?
Does it carry hitchhikers?
Perhaps some space junk
revolving around a distant planet
unknown to us Earthlings?
How does it remember
the same highway
in a Milky Way full
of stars that all look the same?
Are there celestial road signs
space grooves to light the way?
Does a comet ever take a path less traveled?

poem of the day February 2
If you only
had one apple
Would eat
it all at once?
Would you savor the taste
one slice at a time?
Would you wait for perfect ripeness?
Would you spend happy days
worshipping, anticipating apple perfection?
So much that apple
ends up rotting
and having to be fed
to Phil the Groundhog?
