poem of the day April 30

headwinds
tailwinds
push & pull
depending on
the direction
a daily rider faces
everyday within
the long, short
up down
tunnel of life

poem of the day April 29

What if the sun
was not
a star at all
and was just
part of some
cosmic mind
lighting a sunrise
each morning
to get out of darkness
Would that be
a brain beam too far?

poem of the day April 28

if one walks
long enough
they will get in
many steps
maybe 10,000
or more
but does that
guarantee one
will get to where
they are going?

poem of the day April 27

Dusk sky
hued with
reflections
from the farm
Orange yellow
sometimes
beige flowers
A new mauve
colors a somewhat
rainy sunset
caught glistening in
an un-glistening way
wound all around
an April evening

poem of the day April 26

I wonder
what a tree
full of flowers
feels when
the wind pushes
through its petals?

poem of the day April 25

The lost art of waking
without an alarm
eludes many
for a lifetime
The natural cycle
so easily forgotten
in a time filled world
emerges as
the last wavy dream
breaks over sleep
and fades away
Allowing sparkling light
to flicker stirring eyes
opening the first petal
of the morning flower
to awaken a well slept soul

poem of the day April 24

fire & water
wind & earth
Four elements
of eternal life
thrown together
on the Outer Bank
at the edge of an ocean
where the primordial
sun & sea, land & air
effortlessly wash over
all sentient beings
big and small

poem of the day April 23

Sun hid
in fog
well into
sunrise
eventual
breaking
to light
over water
where waves
spilled onto
windless sand
Big rod fishermen
gathered about
in big top trucks
stood waiting for bites
A few early birds
sitting on poles
were spotted loud & laughing
Watching as if they were
beach bum poets
at some ocean jamboree

poem of the day April 22

moving around
an arm here
a leg there
some stretch
some strain
dreams over
bed made
coffee on
sun up
ball bright
and ready
but not waiting
for me to catch up
with the light of day

poem of the day April 21

Sun pokes
flat round
out of clouds
Sea remains
superficially calm
waiting as all wait
for signals of light
Rabbit & deer appear
like beach bunnies
searching around
careful not to wake
the always sleeping

poem of the day April 20

On a balcony
in Ocean City
watching sunrise
emerging from
the horizon
as it spills out
over the sea
Surfers ride
the nearby tide
I watch their glide
on  water so vast
and so free

poem of the day April 19

Clever boats
on vast oceans
find clever ways
to ride the sea
even in the deepest
of dark dangerous tides
It is only the sound
of shining rocks
Big rhinestone echoes
tempting from shore
that can lead
even the most
cleverish of boats
into giving up freedom

poem of the day April 18 All those

All those
Be some
zombies
eyes open
but tricked
into worshiping
dark dead
addicting
anti-heroes
have lost
the ability
to live their
own lives
and have
become
soulless followers
of insatiable lifeless
cruel remorseless matter

 poem of the day

Once upon
a time
finding
the time
for time
was very time
consuming
Like a long
time ago
way back
in time
Father time
never had
any time
for himself
at any time
not even
one time out

poem of the day April 16

The art
of mastery
is something
as simple
as practicing
for a lifetime

poem of the day April 15 Tall trunks

Tall trunks
marking time
stood stoic
in front of
hillhouse farm
Like old sages
the three enlightened
sugar maples
full of branches
grew wise over
many years of
watching families
traditional & hippie
live and leave

poem of the day April 14

Who wears
the light better
than the man
on the moon?
Who catches
more fish
than the old
man and the sea?
Who knows
more about Spain
than the man
of La Mancha?
Who climbs
as high as
the old man
of the mountain?
All I can say
it is definitely not me

poem of the day April 13

Morning gray
dawn cloud light
seeps over
weeping snow
still hanging on
dark branches wet
from yesterday's blizzard
The patient trees
with buds swollen
knowingly watch
the good earth being
sublimely watered
by fertilizing snow

poem of the day April 12

An out of
place snow
White all around
falling fast
and furious
like a blizzard
News flash
It is a blizzard
An April blizzard
Not a bird
or beast
in sight
or sound
Only the quiet
of big flakes
clapping

poem of the day April 11There's

There's always
light at the end
of a tunnel
There are
moonbeams that
fall from the sky
There's a place
in the heart for
reflections
of a sun that
is flying too high
Take a deep breath
of new understanding
know real love is
stronger than hate
where a lovely light
can shine so bright
on the river of icy fate

poem of the day April 10

fit was so cold
or an April day
and I could not tell
by the sound
of the song  birds
if they were singing
or complaining

poem of the day April 9

I wonder
where
the wind
goes after
it has settled
the ground
settled the trees
has settled me?

poem of the day April 8

A long line
of lights
lit the way
for all possibilities
pressed against
the thin veiled
mirrored wall
Eventually
a single
shining spear
was allowed
to break
the barrier
Scrambling
the two worlds
Making the egg
able to hatch

poem of the day April 7

Father & son
together fishing
the Deerfield
Mother & daughter
sit at picnic table
watching them
as water
big from
melting snow
flows under
the long bridge
I can feel
the love
of family on
the atmosphere
pleasantly permeating
Sunday spring

Sunday, April 6, 2025

poem of the day April 6

all those gates
the easy
the hard
the impossible
the effortless
all are
obstacles
humanity has
maneuvered
in and around
for lifetimes
within bodies
driven by souls.

poem of the day April 5

A road lined
with daffodil
brings color
to an afternoon
A universal
yellow sun
within fresh
spring green
spins a feeling
of sparkling joy
on divided land
no matter what
side one drives

poem of the day April 4

A sugar moth
came out of
its cocoon in
early spring
but instead
of enjoying
a long moth life
the moth could
not resist temptation
and flew right into
a beckoning bucket full
of maple sap
where it drowned
in a sweet sea of
sugar water
reminding me
a bit of humanity
lost in waves of desire

poem of the day April 3

Another sign
of spring
Lots of
roadkill about
Making the crows
very happy
I see their
satisfied smiles
pecking away
by the side
of the road

poem of the day April 2

Big mind
of spring
gets ready
to bloom
small mind
of man
sits in
his room
With thoughts
of gardens
inside his head
he looks out
on dormant beds
There he spots
some shoots
of green
Mind of spring
is everything

poem of the day April 1

Do or Don't
Yes or No
can or can't
whole or broken
big or small
love or hate
peace or war
dark or light
These seesaw
battles of life
are always
more or less
somewhere or
nowhere in
the up or down
of to be or not to be
