poem of the day January 31

A table is made
of many pieces
glued together to
make a better life
Some tables are all
from the same tree
Some are from
the same wood
but from different trees
Other tables are made
of different woods
from different trees
with special properties
that make life better
for you and me
It does not matter which tree
as long as tables
live in harmony

poem of the day January 30

A pair of lion bookends
were all that were
protecting the books
The same books that were
burned at the stake
by dark aged beasts
full of unsettled anger
that had simmered for centuries
I watch as the same faces
rush to righteous conclusions
and circle sanity with insanity
It was then that I realized
the only hope is that
the loins are roaring rivers
instead of paper tigers

poem of the day January 29

The curtain of dawn
opening on the new day
The past night dark over
fleeting just like
the emerging light
Watch the ball
roll round and round
black to white
then white to black
all within the circle sack

poem of the day January 28

Once I walked
a wilderness
to find where
I belong
I had to bring
a lot of things
to help me
be alone
I found the going
very hard
until I abandoned
all my chains
that is when
I found the light
hidden in the flames

poem of the day January 27

A fresh coat of paint
can change the walls
of an old house
the same way
fresh thoughts can change
the direction of stuck mind

poem of the day January 26

I was watching
surfers on TV
riding giant waves
as tall as skyscrapers
Moving in and out of tunnels
that were so long they
seemed to stretch everywhere
The big water cascaded down
sometimes plunging a poor soul
into the abyss
where the sharks waited
patiently for the future

poem of the day January 25

So it is just like
the movies
The insane are in charge
Don't look in the basement
Big hair believes
the emperor
wore no clothe
Little hands
are big dicks
especially in
the universe
of alternative facts

poem of the day January 24

An old piece of driftwood
was far from the sea
Sitting on a stand
in a house built by man
I had it on a shelf
for all to see
the pretty wood
shaped by the sea
It looked like a man
tossed around by his mind
floating on water passing time
I wonder if it was
adrift like me
in the ocean of life
we call destiny?

poem of the day January 23

"Most coins have
two sides
that are flipped
for the fate of fortune"
The well dressed Dog
said to the Cat
"But if you buy one
from me it will
catch you a Rat"

poem of the day January 22

The raw pulse
of emotion
released by
events that
the Genie could
no longer
keep in the bottle
are like unbalanced streams
that can topple
the very mountain
they are trying
to climb

poem of the day January 21

May the yin rise
and form
an army
of love
Able to overcome
the winds of destruction
found living in the gates
of power
Time for Mother Earth
to weave a road
toward lasting peace
from where we'll feast

poem of the day January 20

The road is long
without a home
Every pilgrim needs
a place to rest
A personal temple
where the days
of travel can not
touch the sides
of the soul

poem of the day January 19

I had a wonderful road
of colors
blooming inside
of me
Ruby red
Sapphire blue
Golden yellow
Emerald green
Pearly white
A dream map
toward happiness
and lasting harmony
I began to chant
and sound or three
to open up the day
It made me understand
the power of the way

poem of the day January 18

The rooms inside
many houses
are connected
by long hallways
full of clutter
It had taken years
of neglect before
anyone noticed
By then the old floors
cracked under their own weight
It was hard to
get from one place
to another without
stubbing your toes
or twisting in pain
from lack of oxygen
All knew it was not easy
to be an old house
but few were able
to do much
except live
in a room or two

poem of the day January 17

I am sad to say
the greatest show on earth
is no more
I remember my first circus
Me a fresh first of May
with my uncle
way back in
the early 1960's
He bought me a chameleon
from the midway
while we
viewed all sorts of
deformities
that sucked me
into the garden of sin
I know it was wrong to want to
see elephants dance
and cats romance
bearded ladies and
the lobster men
but inside of all
is the big tent
full of wonderment
and memories
of peppermint clowns
on a flying trapeze that
no longer flies through the air with ease

poem of the day January 16

Solutions
sometimes
flow out
of ideas
trapped
inside long dreams
by the very logic
used while
sleeping in
deep valleys
to free them
realized you
are only resting
between mountains

poem of the day January 15

I never tire
of the creeping dawn
The first hints of light
emerging from the night
The shadows of day
expressing their way
I am glad to be very awake
fresh and eager in this moment
instead of dreaming of other whims
forgotten within the sleep of sin

poem of the day January 14

I wish I was
an old pine tree
high atop a ridge so free
My  needles still
green and strong
able to withstand
the winds of storm
I'd look out over
the full winter moon
and pray for those
lost in their turn

poem of the day January 13

The wind
gave life
to the empty barrel
filling it with breath
Soon it was rolling
down the hill
over the meadow
with a life
of its own
Where it goes
I do not know
It serves the wind
as it glides over snow

poem of the day January 12

The first steps
into the tunnel
are by chance
Full of old
light from the past
Each step foward
turns darker
until all becomes
the silent night
There the fears of darkness
can surround all souls
Don't give up
Know if you keep
on taking steps
courage will grow
into the light of change
that is always
waiting at the end of
the tunnel

poem of the day January 11

You should see
the outfit My friend
bought his dog
at the Frederick's of Hollywood
section in the Dog department
of the pet store
I have to say
the dog looked very ridiculous
and we all know
A Dog Can Never Be Made
To Look RIDICULOUS!

poem of the day January 10

Magnets are a curious energy
Sometimes they attract
Sometimes they repel
Sometimes magnets
are made of metal
Sometimes magnets
are made of thought
Both are powerful chains
that can keep one from change

poem of the day January 9

Walk
Run
Have
fun
in
the
sun
with
everyone
Drink
your
soup
with
good
intent
but
don't
forget
about
the
rent
In
all
dreams
there
are
some
sins
Embrace
them
in
your
life
within
And
if
you
fail
don't
be
afraid
It
is
just
some
moment
in
the
grand
parade

poem of the day January 8

A new white dusting
on a New England farm
A clean coat of magic
twinkling in the early sunlight
bringing life to sleeping trees
as their shadows reach out
over the snowy meadow
All is well and getting better

poem of the day January 7

Seventh day into
the long month
White winter grey
settles down
to embrace
the cold snow
Outside my window
a blue Jay is perched
on a naked branch
looking out with
deep reflections
brought on by
the quiet solitude of
a January morning

poem of the day January 6

How many words
get stuck on the
tip of a tongue?
I guess it depends
on how clear we
understand the language
of a muscle we all use
to chew over thoughts
that sometimes
get choked from within

poem of the day January 5

'Be on the lookout for the pearl"
The dragon shouted to
the eager fish all lined
up by the starting gate
"Put on your dancing shoes
and follow me" He said
as the dragon jumped over the
first bridge knowing
that when he looked back
he would not see many

poem of the day January 4

The bridge
between
good and evil
crosses the
deep sea
of emotions
found in every soul
as they struggle
across the great divide

poem of the day January 3

Rain on snow
makes for
a slippery go
Something
as simple as
Hard frozen
water makes
all things equal
White ice
Black ice
become the same
extreme

poem of the day January 2

The best thing
about life
is to be back
inside the real dream
the one I you we
have driven for eternity
but sometimes forget to love

poem of the day January 1

Working the way back
from perfection
The vessel taking
on drops of water
as it navigates
the shores of confusion
What is dream?
What is dreamer?
The cat catches the mouse
playing with the fire of fear
Where flames expand
over a landscape full
of the steam
from last year's stream
