poem of the day January 17

I am sad to say
the greatest show on earth
is no more
I remember my first circus
Me a fresh first of May
with my uncle
way back in
the early 1960's
He bought me a chameleon
from the midway
while we
viewed all sorts of
deformities
that sucked me
into the garden of sin
I know it was wrong to want to
see elephants dance
and cats romance
bearded ladies and
the lobster men
but inside of all
is the big tent
full of wonderment
and memories
of peppermint clowns
on a flying trapeze that
no longer flies through the air with ease
