poem of the day September 12

On the eve of a big storm
I am looking at fancy beach houses
rebuilt on fragile mud flats
destroyed by past hurricanes
They look just like greedy
temples of ignorant humanity
oblivious to anything but fleeting pleasure
and the taming of an untameable sea

such is the modern meaning of being free
