poem of the day December 31

Last day
of a decade
on the deck
of the good ship Eve
Morning starts
with no urgency
Sun rises when ready
The ride of anticipation
builds each hour
The soon to be New Year awaits
illuminated by the light of
a shinny small anchor moon
I see the perfection of 20-20
in the imperfect eyes of every wave

poem of the day December 30

A drip of rain
on a heavy branch
makes me feel
of avalanche
A dream beneath
wrap of life
bears the weight
of sacrifice
Laden out
morning dew
A little of me
A little of you

poem of the day December 29

An early red dawn signals
the slow rise of a fast short day
A long crimson tide sky has
some land lubbers on edge
The storm is drifting closer
Power outages expected
Mother nature sits atop
the storm laughing
with other Gods
watching no man's light

poem of the day December 27

Time Square is madness
alive with art like poets
shouting verses filled
with friendly fire
I see them walking hand in hand
with street hustlers
Painting laughter on
the fresh faces of families
alive with the excitement
of Christmas in New York
poem of the day December 28

It amused me very much
to see the filthy rich unable
to defeat  the pigeons of Central Park
The landmark New York  Plaza Hotel
fountain and sidewalk are covered in shit
The birds defecate all the time
right in front of the grand entrance
Expensive Italian shoes
Fancy designer high heels stumble
out of the ornate brass doors onto
the messy slippery white gross goo
where an army of hard working
underpaid poor immigrants  hired by Trump
try so valiantly to wipe up the mess
but they were having little luck
for as soon as they wiped away the old goo
another pigeon flew by to deposit some new

poem of the day December 26

There is still
wilderness within
the civilized cage
Untamed wild desire
rivers that flow
long and hard
wet and swollen
in the deep recesses
Only coming out
in the very dark light
of a hidden black mirror

poem of the day December 25

The collective
The sum of the whole
Small parts drift in the wave
Some drown in the power
but even they are able to swim
in the joy of the moment
The tides rushes
allowing the sea
to carry every change
The parts do feel every drop
of this long hourglass
laden with holiday time

Tuesday, December 24, 2019

poem of the day December 24

I wonder what holidays
are like on other earths
far away in another universe
Are they made with the same refrain
Cakes baked with love
Families all together
singing songs of celebration
full of love and cheer
Do they have mistletoe
under which to kiss a special dear?

Monday, December 23, 2019

poem of the day December 23

Watching the history of man
Thinking of how peace
like its opposite war
can begin in
the flash of a second
not with the waste of a deadly explosion
but with the eruption of pure peaceful enlightenment
Now is the time for all to ride these open boats
and embrace the true tide of lasting joy

Sunday, December 22, 2019

poem of the day December 22

Life of dreams
where one can be
everywhere at once
with everyone
Going into rooms
full of everything
Nothing off limits
No ceilings
No floors
only walls that see
the crazy imagination
found in everyone's sublimity
But when we awake
our boundaries are reined
we enter our daily lives
where little has changed

Saturday, December 21, 2019

poem of the day December 21

It takes a certain kind
of patience to ruin a stew
like multi tasking
while making the rue
Diverted by doing
too many things
then answering the phone
that happens to ring
The flour is black
The pot is stained
I'll have to dump this batch
and start all over again

Friday, December 20, 2019

poem of the day December 20

Cold dark stark
air from Canada
has invaded
New England
bringing an exquisite
shiver deep into the bones
I am dressed like a Polar bear
lumbering around
while the dogs bark
trying to send back
the calm wind of freezing dawn

Thursday, December 19, 2019

poem of the day December 19

The sword is hanging
from the rafters
Frozen in the rock
of lost time
The sun dial moves
in this blackness
under dark clouds
making it impossible
to row the direction
The boat wears diapers
like a cheap suit
polished but
not cut from
good cloth
unable to stop the leak
flowing from the blind man's rudder

Wednesday, December 18, 2019

poem of the day December 18

Twas the night
before judgment
And all is quiet on
the western front
John Brown sits in his house
polishing a somber mirror
watching the grand stooge write
frantic gibberish from the Alamo
The great tide of a national divide
sweeps across the land of the free
How it ends depends on Russian robots
armed with the hateful weapons of words

Tuesday, December 17, 2019

poem of the day December 17

Where to be
within a dream?
A place of
deep fantasy
What is real?
What is not?
The tide of sleep
drifts to the door
Open yes
Open no
Swim in water
Walk the snow

Monday, December 16, 2019

poem of the day December 16

The art of waking
The art of opening eyes
The rising of old bones
to the new morning
Full mind or empty mind
The flowers bloom each day
cluttered or not
The sun waits for no one

Sunday, December 15, 2019

poem of the day December 15

A glass of clean water
is the real nectar
The thirst quenching
gift of nature
Free for all
Until bottled
and sold
by the candy man

Saturday, December 14, 2019

An old road
overgrown with trees
hides a past
full of footprints
once traveled
to places
long forgotten
I wonder if
the souls of
lost travelers
still linger
in the branches
silently waiting for
a new generation
to clear the man made
weeds of wilderness

Friday, December 13, 2019

poem of the day December 13

I have never seen
the wildflowers of Mars
blooming  bright on the
slopes of Mons Olympus
but I imagine them
to be eager, open, alive
and as beautiful
as my Earthly imagination

Thursday, December 12, 2019

poem of the day December 12

The bright light
of the full moon
made me glad
I was not a rabbit
out in  the wilderness

Wednesday, December 11, 2019

poem of the day December 11

An inch or two
of fallen snow
The white like
glaze of nature's cake
reminds me of
a wedding vow
full of love
full of fate

Tuesday, December 10, 2019

poem of the day December 10

Every step is a point
of no return
Every second is another
tick of time
Every word  is
a shout into wilderness
All are maps
All are ladder rails
on the road of life

Monday, December 9, 2019

poem of the day

I have solved the problem
of getting up in the middle
of the night
to let the dogs out
I have invented
the DOG URINAL
A shinny two sided porcelain
toilet that fits against
the wall next to our own throne
It has a back splash to catch pee
A long trough to do number Two
And comes with a robot flusher
in the shape of dachshunds
with enough force to flush dog waste away
Think of all the benefits
beyond a good nights sleep
Now we will be able to leave
our dogs inside for days
without the worry of coming
home to a stinky mess

Sunday, December 8, 2019

poem of the day December 8

Fancy rewards
Money back
Spend more
Get more
Free shipping
The screens are flooded
with temptation
Door busters
are candy coated ice cream
Greed is a lusty icing
SORRY, I have end this
poem abruptly
to buy my happiness
which for the next ten minutes
is 70 percent off!

Saturday, December 7, 2019

poem of the day December 7

There was only
so much laughter
left in the bottle
Yet everybody crowded
around the strangled spout
smothering belly dances
needed for the future
I watched from afar
as small children demanded
action from the old buzzard
too busy eating dead meat to survive

Friday, December 6, 2019

poem of the day December 6

When a leader
starts believing
Starts selling
illusions of delusion
then we are so far
from the truth
So far from the well
We will need a miracle
to keep heaven from
becoming a powerful hell

Thursday, December 5, 2019

poem of the day December 5

A glimpse
A peak
A crack
A little of this
A little of that
Eventual
the egg opens
with a gasp
A scream
A primordial
AAAHH
Then all is free
Every soul
needs to be

Wednesday, December 4, 2019

poem of the day December 4

Night dreams
have no plans
Only ideas
Sublime ideas
brought forth
by forces
able to distract
the night watchmen

Tuesday, December 3, 2019

poem of the day December 3

I like the way
the white snow
drapes over the
maple branch
like a fur coat
more warm
and ready
for winter then I

Monday, December 2, 2019

poem of the day December 2

Nature's might
Snowed all night
Dawn to light
World is white
What a sight

Sunday, December 1, 2019

poem of the day December 1

Some souls walk
in and out of spirit
Some have rings
that even sing
The universe guides
them all from small
boats set upon huge seas
with lifetimes full of tendencies

Saturday, November 30, 2019

poem of the day November 30

I wonder what it is like
to be a Siamese fighting fish
alone in a life of isolation
Forever angry
Forever at war
Never at peace
Is there some happiness
Some meaning
to be so beautiful
within the fold of self darkness?
poem of the day November 29

A
lot of
big wishes
are being hung
on fresh wishing trees
I see mountain like piles
of perfect perfection being
claimed by cars full of families
bursting with hope and anticipation
It is the exquisite holiday lead up fueled
by the march of emotions that consume many
a human soul
yet no one

asks the trees if they believe

Thursday, November 28, 2019

poem of the day November 28

Each year only a few survive
A turkey here, A turkey there
Two are always pardoned by the president
Mostly though the big birds are being roasted
and stuffed with tasty stuffing by the millions
to be served as the delicious centerpiece of Thanksgiving
Yet everyone knows turkey wasn't even on the menu of the very first feast
It was all five hundred years of lies, fake news carefully
spread by the real meal that day, those ruthless fascist ducks

Wednesday, November 27, 2019

poem of the day November 27

The sky is crimson today
The spruce are silhouetted
The early red dawn sparks my imagination
I am riding time as it glides over the landscape

Tuesday, November 26, 2019

poem of the day November 26

Inner astronauts
explore inside space
mixing the ideas of god
with the extreme pressure
of cold unshakable gravity
The bones become highways
in which to travel many miles
No special gear is needed
only the song of perseverance
where imagination becomes reality

Monday, November 25, 2019

poem of the day November 25

Born with emotions
in which to navigate
a lifetime
the pristine soul
was pure and rudderless
Had nothing to fear
Had nothing to hate
Had nothing to anger
All that turmoil was learned
from others who had come before

Sunday, November 24, 2019

poem of the day November 24

The snow was white
in the dark filled night
glistening right before the dawn
I was up, still tired, sipping Joe
trying to write a poem
It was then I heard
the silence of the change
from late dusk to early dawn
I watched the light on new born snow
from the comfort of my home

Saturday, November 23, 2019

poem of the day November 23

Close to an open sun
The light waxing through the
stand of tall spruce looks
like the tail feathers of
an early primordial bird
The sky illuminates the inner
soul of each quill with
a long tongue sent from far away

Friday, November 22, 2019

poem of the day November 22

Walking outward
Walking inward
with a pace full of peace
A good bridge between
worlds divided by thin skin lines
of open and closed
Where to take the first step
depends if you are looking
Outside in or Inside out

Thursday, November 21, 2019

poem of the day November 21

What truths lie below the skin
Below the shrink wrapped layer
that holds together a living soul
We all see the shallow emotional landscape
The great ocean range from smiles to frowns
Yet it goes deeper deeper then that
I believe truth depends on the bones
and how one holds the universal moral structure of evolution

Wednesday, November 20, 2019

poem of the day November 20

The signs were hints
of opposite directions
Loud words plastered
on the lips of angry faces
There was very little left
for those who sat in the center
watching the "reel" world spin
out of moral all control

Tuesday, November 19, 2019

poem of the day November 19

To see inside
your anatomy
requires no eyes
just a feeling of sensitivity
not born of emotion
but gathered slowly
as you travel over
all the peaks and valleys
All the bones and organs
to find that place within the hall
where inner peace greets your soul

Monday, November 18, 2019

poem of the day November 18

Foggy dawn
Clouds surround
Black turning grey
Air near freezing
Loud quiet silence
overtakes the meadow

Sunday, November 17, 2019

poem of the day November 17

Someone called me up
to say they loved the sea
Loved the waves of harmony
Loved the water and how it felt
to use the wet to inside melt
the frozen life of many fears
to finally know for what to tear

Saturday, November 16, 2019

poem of the day November 16

The dogs are full of ticks
Some the size of rotten grapes
I have to say over time I have come
to enjoy picking them off
and throwing them in the wood stove
I am wondering what God would say?

Friday, November 15, 2019

poem of the day November 15

The moon was so bright
it was hard to tell the dawn
Only now can I see the rays
of the fresh morning light
The moon reminded of
beautiful egg like flowers
setting the stage for
new bloom of life

Thursday, November 14, 2019

poem of the day November 14

The old becomes new
The new becomes old
The circle continues
with the babies we hold
The magic of life
begins with a breath
will last for a lifetime
until we all rest

Wednesday, November 13, 2019

poem of the day November 13

The eve of America
is clouded in cold
From coast to coast
Snow wind fire rain
signaling the seriousness
of the situation
A fight for the soul of the nation
There are no Gods to help
only mortals with suits of prejudices
designed to tailor the reality
May the rays of honest light
open all consciousness
allowing the truth to come forth

Tuesday, November 12, 2019

poem of the day November 12

Cold dark morning rain
keeps the dawn away
I have been watching
the slow advance of light
wondering if the rain might
turn into the first winter snow

Monday, November 11, 2019

poem of the day November 11

Non stop universes
are streaming away
as fast as they can
going to somewhere
expected or unexpected
Yet the ride is so smooth
I do not feel anything
except the aches and pains
of my very small life

Sunday, November 10, 2019

poem of the day November 10

We live within
a rounded world
full of water, air and land
Tiny sticks straight out of mud
walking hard with greedy thoughts
on lovely open virgin soil
like rotting fish about to spoil

Saturday, November 9, 2019

poem of the day November 9

Frosted meadow
Cold bird shivering
on a barren branch
I admire the stoic solitude
Watching, waiting
for the first rays
of November sun

Friday, November 8, 2019

poem of the day November 8

I read the Brander
has branded another jiggle
in the quest to be
the greatest of all narcissists
The Angry Majority
It has a ring born of hate
A war cry for the unhappy proud
Mad as hell on the wrong side of happiness
To stop the lure of this mad branded magnet
we need happy people not TV robots

Thursday, November 7, 2019

poem of the day November 7

One begins the day
by opening to the dawn
Glimpsing out of eyes
that have spent the night
closed in dreams that
may or may not
guide the day

Wednesday, November 6, 2019

poem of the day November 6

Trees are grey
Sky is grey
Roads are grey
Moods are grey
World is grey
Full November grey
Color without color
only grey lifeless shades
of black and white extremes
The grey seems so settled
as if an early winter day

Tuesday, November 5, 2019

poem of the day November 5

Stark branches
silhouetted by
early orange sky
appear as naked dancers
shivering on the frosty dawn
If I was God of nature
I would have left
their summer leaves on

Monday, November 4, 2019

poem of the day November 4

It all has to do with angles
Small sailed boats floating in circles
The degrees are tiny rain drops
that have floated down a deep river
The depth of all thoughts are decided
by raw emotions of good and bad
Where we go and who we are
depends on this intersection of humanity

Sunday, November 3, 2019

poem of the day November 3

There is an abundance of time
Everyday, 24 hours of time
No exceptions
Time has never miss a minute
It is only our simple illusion
that leads to confusion
Like why are we so
obsessed with time?
It does not matter of course
late or early
worm or birdie
Yet tonight we have decided
to set time back time a tock
so don't forget to change your clock

Saturday, November 2, 2019

poem of the day November 2

I want to walk atop
ideas as they flow
out of the universe
I want to ride clean wind
as it pushes pure water
down to the sea
I am in the low valley dreaming
about high peaked mountains
Wondering how long it will
take for the Earth to be human free?

Friday, November 1, 2019

poem of the day November 1

An old chair
with a worn seat
lay outside in the rain
neglected by time
I drove by wondering
who sat for so many years
in this discarded throne
that was now soaked to the bone

Thursday, October 31, 2019

poem of the day October 31

The world is a big place
full of mountains and valleys
full of lands and oceans
Where waves and wind
travel sometimes in the same direction
making changes all over the landscape
like artists painting from inside the whole

Wednesday, October 30, 2019

poem of the day October 30

Quiet surrounds
the early dawn
holding the deep sleep
of the night before
in a cradle of darkness
where all souls wait for
the first sounds of light

Tuesday, October 29, 2019

poem of the day October 29

The day felt like copper
The oaks were bronze sentries
lining the roadway toward home
The fallen leaves of all trees mixed
together to form a brown blanket
that welcomed the warm rays of the sun
sending sparkles of golden treasures everywhere

Monday, October 28, 2019

poem of the day October 28

I dreamed I was the goldfish
in Aunt Marilyn’s kitchen
living in a one room glass fish tank
full of New York City tap water
with a grand view of the refrigerator
and the old gas stove
I had nothing to do but dream
of the nothingness of life
which became very meaningful
when I realized perhaps I really was
the goldfish who was dreaming up me

Sunday, October 27, 2019

poem of the day October 27

I learned at the party
of the new centenarian
his secret of longevity
I was surprised to hear
It was to always worry
Yet not be in a hurry
Plan a full rewarding day
But mostly surround yourself
with the love of friends and family
where the circle of life never ends

Saturday, October 26, 2019

poem of the day November 26

Fire and Water
all over the world
Floods and Infernos
Wind eating Wood
Climate change is not going good

Friday, October 25, 2019

poem of the day October 25

I wasn't able to walk on water
but I was able to walk in water
though I got very wet on pure H2O
that should count for something
especially when I see that sinners are
in charge of handing out the blessings

Thursday, October 24, 2019

poem of the day October 24

The difference
between boats
is just some water
slapping within the tides
And nothing like the big waves
that wash life upon the shores

Wednesday, October 23, 2019

poem of the day October 23

Begin another morning
on the wall of ritual
Wash your face
Say some grace
Then stumble

out the door

Tuesday, October 22, 2019

poem of the day October 21

A flower opens
with a sudden burst
of emotion found deep
inside the marrow
Rising to bloom
like big wet eyes
of a heart felt storm
poem of the day October 22

It take a lot of years
to live to be a hundred
So few reach this club of a century
Where 36,500 days of sunrises, sunsets
house a million memories of past events
It is a rare special life full of humanity
to be one that knows the secret of longevity
And soon at his happy 100 birthday party
I will ask my friend, the centurion
How does one live to be three score and forty

Sunday, October 20, 2019

poem of the day October 20

Up before for the fall sun
feeling the fresh cold of night
linger on my open soul
I am like the meadow grass
full of eager anticipation
waiting for the warm light

Saturday, October 19, 2019

poem of the day October 19

Some trees
have lost
their leaves
Others are
full of color
A checker board
marks every change
as seasons turn
within this game

Friday, October 18, 2019

poem of the day October 18

A 19th century evening
Oil lamps light the house
In bed very early
to sleep away the night
I am up now trying to
remember my old fashioned dreams
from generations long ago
poem of the day October 17

Rain and wind
The power out
Dark gray day
lingers longer
then the life
of morning candles

Wednesday, October 16, 2019

poem of the day October 16

The still before
an all out rain
allows for quiet reflections
where one is able
to savoir the past while it lasts

Tuesday, October 15, 2019

poem of the day October 15

Tables wait
inside a room
Well dressed with
china from the wall
A parade of food
makes its way
as gathered chairs begin to fill
Soon a toast is called
all around the world
with familiar songs from every home
Giving life to tables waiting their room

Monday, October 14, 2019

poem of the day October 14

A triangle became a circle
Two triangles became a star
I was looking at the Milky Way
trying to find all universal shapes
while sitting on my earthly square
It was then I realized the door
of eternity was nothing but a rectangle
swinging on the shaped filled hinges of life

Sunday, October 13, 2019

poem of the day October 13

Happy within a bound sea
the little fish swims so free
until it reaches the river's edge
where other water begins to spread
beyond the gate of familiar tears
into the pool of worldly fears

Saturday, October 12, 2019

poem of the day October 12

A leaf alive
within the wind
flutters on
wings of whim
Where to go
What to see
I wonder as I watch it be

Friday, October 11, 2019

poem of the day October 10

How many drips of dew fill a dawn?
The elixir sweet fog of night dreams
covers the earth like a long wet blanket
Shivering souls sweat songs before the sun
How many drips can you count on a tongue?

Thursday, October 10, 2019

poem of the day October 10

I am looking for
an emotional support tree
One I can bring with me
On a plane to Spain
so I won't have to face
the falling rain alone
And turn the water into happy cheers
instead of sadness found in old long tears

Wednesday, October 9, 2019

poem of the day October 9

There are no cross roads anymore
cause no chicken in their right mind
wants to get to the other's side
There are only tribal teams
Big paper tigers riding blind cheerleaders
that dazzle the mind while dancing
on a stage full of black hate and white love
"What happened?" God shouted to a pack of righteous worms
dressed in Sunday best he found walking the narrow minded road
"Don't you know the early birds soon will be a coming"
poem of the day October 8

A march of change
needs a direction
Otherwise it
ends up going
in circles of raw emotion

Monday, October 7, 2019

poem of the day October 7

After many years
There is one thing I know
I see the mountain
and later living
same as you always do

Sunday, October 6, 2019

poem of the day October 6

Some worlds are open
Some worlds are closed
How to know which is which
takes a lifetime to behold

Saturday, October 5, 2019

poem of the day October 5

The simple pleasure of food
The anticipation of recipes
Handed down favorites
All special
All love felt
A good time for families
to share suppers
around the home table
full of happy conversations
warmed by belly laughs
both sweet and savory

Friday, October 4, 2019

poem of the day October 4

Drifting in a gentle dawn rain
wet leaves filled with night dreams
fall to the ground full of memories
I wonder if they will remember their journey
when awaken by the drying light of day

Thursday, October 3, 2019

poem of the day October 3

The gate of stagnation blew open
in a free wind for the first time in years
It took a while for indecisive footprints
caught in their own red and white shoes
to move forward through the polarized soil
salted with the hatred of loud fear-mongers
The gate was bathed in the pure blue sunshine of the constitution
Looking back it was a good day of freedom

Wednesday, October 2, 2019

poem of the day October 2

Wind clouds held hands
looking very married
Sky was bright blue
Half shadow sun
illuminated two sunflowers
Drums from a muted plane engine
accompanied a monarch
flying over the meadow
I was leaning on a tree
who was chilling with me

Tuesday, October 1, 2019

poem of the day October 1

Time washes over a room
leaving layers
A laugh
A cry
A piece of pie
Remembrance
inside walls
200 years of emotions
glued with the dust
of humanity
Buried deep
Yet sometimes opened
but only by the light of a living soul

Monday, September 30, 2019

poem of the day September 30

Circles meeting at the well
A reunion of time and space
Tadpoles swimming in the
frosh of primordial nectar
Alive with a freshness that
wiggles toward perfection
Circles evolve into spirals
as they once again leave the well
to swim within the boundaries of life
found between heaven and earth

Sunday, September 29, 2019

poem of the day September 29

Indian summer
Day warm
Sun strong
Feels like heaven
on a happy face

Saturday, September 28, 2019

poem of the day September 28

The glue wasn't holding anymore
Everything was falling apart
The two sides of the same coin
struggled to stick together
Everybody should have known
it was bound to happen
The glue was just too old and full of
18th century ideals of right and wrong
The land of milk and honey had changed
Truth was no longer needed in a grey world
now made of ideas that are not meant to last

Friday, September 27, 2019

poem of the day September 27

The dawn light almost
looks like Halloween
Black night
Orange sky
makes me think of pumpkin pie
poem of the day September 26

When the Indians finally
break the circled wagons
It will every rat for themselves
Nobody will save the king of the flies

poem of the day September 25

From far away
I could not tell
if it was a leaf
or a butterfly
It danced long on
the meadow top
to skim the grass
of lollipops
The colors of this UFO
merged a monarch
with a maple leaf
And although I did not
get close enough
I enjoyed this flutter
of Autumn fluff

poem of the day September 24

The Blue Jays are back
I've seen a few with Canadian handbags
flying in from the north
They look great after their summer vacation
Fat, well rested and full of advise
They shout-sing to all around
letting everybody know
The Blue Jays are back in town

poem of the day September 23

The first day of Autumn
wore Summer on its back
The Crickets all were singing
in a brand new Cadillac
Only the Ants were working
on this very glorious day
for they knew from experience
cold Winter was on the way

poem of the day September 22

The trees liked the day
It was warm and sunny
Their leaves were just
starting to turn colors
so even the early dawn
was pleasant on their covered bark
but mostly the trees were out human watching
marveling at the splendid colors of fall fashion

poem of the day September 21

A dream begins
with the wink of an eye
The nightly fall into a different
type of  human reality
Where abstract meets logic
Sometimes twisting
life into strange circles
Able to open realms within
the field of otherwise unreachable possibilities

poem of the day September 20

At twilight the shadows
go deeper and deeper into darkness
I am watching them from my window
At dawn the shadows re-emerge
from a long night's sleep
awakening into the light
Again I am watching from my window
I see, feel an earthly tide of opening and closing
Reminding me of a magic merry-go-round of everyday life

poem of the day September 19

Another day of drifting
toward what we do not know
Out of control sunspots
are turning into public spectacles
designed to hide the truth
What news can a muse generate
when there is so much popcorn clutter
with too many shows but nowhere to go

poem of the day September 18

What if the sun and
moon traded places
Would we still sleep at night?
Would flowers still bloom in the day?
Would we change day and night
by turning night into day?
Would good morning become good evening?
And would we change the order of morals
Would it now be Dark and Light?
Evil and Good?
Something to think about while walking the woods

poem of the day September 17

To understand
the mind of a stream
one has to walk across
all kinds of ideas
that get trapped
in the quicksand
of fast flowing water

poem of the day September 16

We are all stars
Stars of the universe
Stars of our own movie
Tiny lights floating in the big darkness
Mostly afraid of the eternal black vastness
Trying desperately to merge with other lights
To belong to some large super nova
Unaware of consequences that lurk
in the magnetic pulse of unstable human emotions

poem of the day September 15

The new trend in cooking was
apples and oranges did mix
The idea soon seeped into the heart of cultures
Almost instantly groups that hated each other
suddenly merged to become friends
full of a new kind of super juice called love

poem of the day September 14

It was about the winning
It was not about the game
The prize was recognition
The craving of the vain
I see the orange light bulb
of the fortune teller's ball
It reflected off the winner
who had lost it for us all

poem of the day September 13

Light through the trees
can be seen this dawn
Rays of euphoric sparkles
lighten  the deep forest floor
reminding me that love can shine
even in dark places within a blackened soul

poem of the day September 12

A puppet needs a puppet master
A puppet master needs a puppet
What I am trying to figure out
in the vague grey world of upside down politics
Is who is the puppet and who is the puppet master?

poem of the day September 11

A still muggy morning
Early birds feasting on bounty
Unaware of anything except eating
Those little worms must taste great
as the birds eagerly down plump night crawlers
with the same relish I do while devouring
a three pound perfectly cooked lobster

poem of the day September 10

There is crazy
There is more crazy
There is even more crazy
The norms of behavior
have been thrown out the window
and are in need of a savior
But the savior doesn't
have a flock anymore
All those marks of the devil
when we were kids seem so simple now
The Bar code and Ping Pong machine have
grown into monsters with names
like Alexa or Suri
that spy on souls who eagerly
give into shallow desire and don't
care or understand the dripping,
or the eroding of morality
Humanity is at the cross road of time
Don't let the fiddler divide your mind

poem of the day September 9

Some sun sunflowers
are so tall they
reach through the clouds
into the world of fantasy
where ideas mix with dreams
forming perfect little suns
to help light everyday rainbows

Sunday, September 8, 2019

poem of the day September 8

A million Grasshoppers
within the meadow grass
Along with billions of Crickets
singing from everywhere
I did not know until I mowed
that there were many armies about
until they fluttered all around
with long wing like oars
reminding me of endless wars

poem of the day September 7

The same still photo of sunrise was
forever placed in front of the hotel window
Never changed even once
Yet day after day
Year after year
the masses including me
lined up to peer
through this window at the same sunrise
that was always different
How can this be?
Do we really see what we see?

poem of the day September 6

Dust covers everything
covers the fresh rain
as soon as it falls
Even covers busy highways
full of emotional turmoil
until the loud horns are quickly forgotten
by the insensitive masses
too busy to live their own lives

Thursday, September 5, 2019

poem of the day September 5

There was a mountain
hiding in a valley floor
though none could see
The mountain had dripped
down with the rain
a piece at a time
until it was forgotten
by all except the miners
hunting for gold

poem of the day September 4

There is a time
where everything is calm
Everything is at rest
But then at some point
something stirs
I wonder what makes
the stir go crazy?

poem of the day September 3

The first dark age was still within control
The was no reliance on centralized electricity
and knowledge was preserved in books
enabling a few learned men to save the treasured wisdom
The hordes were self-sufficient
and had enough survival skills to
ride out the black winter storms which lasted a cruel 500 years
The second dark age will not be as easy for we are
a long way from this simplicity
Few have the skills to raise their own food or gather fuel
The hordes are now controlled by technology and are glued
to the screen where lives are fabricated by the fashion of delusion
Meanwhile weapons have advanced to the point of no return
We can only hope that perhaps there is a real God

poem of the day September 2

At the flea
behind me
was a man
A white man
selling fake
Jim Crow
and other fakes
All made in China
He wore a
Trump hat
and chained
smoked cigars
The smoke filtered
over on to me
and I was soon poisoned
by his insensitivity
All day long
I wondered what
makes him tick
as I began to feel real sick

poem of the day September 1

Find that path
Walk along
each day
Bring friends
that is a good karma

Saturday, August 31, 2019

poem of the day August 31

Tag Sailing
is a contact sport
full of twists and turns
A race of collectors
descending  on a yard sail
to satisfied a full body desire

Friday, August 30, 2019

poem of the day August 30

Is there a plan for randomness
in case things don't go as planned?
That was the question being contemplated by the Gods
The amoebas had just emerged
from the frosty brew of life
The sea was alive with one cell animals
Billions and billions
swimming
wiggling
dividing into more and more billions
Until the unthinkable happened
instead of forming new amoebas
The one cell  life began to grow into many connected cells
of the same being
It will be OK, one of the Gods finally said
We will invent the concept of Hell

poem of the day August 29

Two can play this solitaire
far away from pretty hair
All games begin life as cake
frosting is the card of fate

Wednesday, August 28, 2019

poem of the day August 28

Friends
Amigos
The special bonding
of humanity
What makes
this random journey
from stranger
to friend?
Is it ordained?
Luck?
Some universal love factory where
we are all a bunch bouncing bubbles
pouring out of sweet champagne?
Who knows who or where our tiny bubbles will meet
perhaps the secret is found in the feet

poem of the day August 27

Looking into the eye
of a spider's web
I see a long dark enticing tunnel
ending in a lighted open doorway
making it hard for a big bug
to resist the illusion of a grand life somewhere
just beyond the other side of the rainbow

Monday, August 26, 2019

poem of the day August 26

The path was worn
from many years of mindless walking
The once proud mountains
were now smooth and soft
Deeper and deeper footprints
made their way into familiar valleys
It was only when the road ended
did a traveler know if they had
chosen the right direction

poem of the day August 25

The idea of time
fleeting moments
Sometimes slow
Sometimes  fast
What makes the heart beat
in a connected world
depends on many circumstances
For time does not move off mountains
or touch valleys without leaving footprints
full of human emotions

Saturday, August 24, 2019

poem of the day August 24

So many flowers
Gardens alive with color
A long summer kaleidoscope
The secret of twirling rainbows
Pungent beats of an open heart
Be a butterfly flap your wings

Friday, August 23, 2019

poem of the day August 23

A forgotten rain
fell last night
got stuck in the tree tops
and never would have fallen out
without the morning wind
Reminding me of
just how connected
in sync-step all things ARE
Especially for those souls
walking under wet leaves

Thursday, August 22, 2019

poem of the day August 22

The breath between
the sun and moon
embraces both night and day
It flies along the ridge of souls
from mountains down to valley floors
merging light within soft human folds
allowing love to open long closed doors

Wednesday, August 21, 2019

poem of the day August 21

An early rumble
Morning thunder
wakes a sailor's sky
Green leaves
coated in an orange glow
making me think of
a mid-summer's dawn
as a rain begins the journey
somewhere on the way towards fall

Tuesday, August 20, 2019

poem of the day August 20

Fresh mowed grass
on a hot August day
Fog like tiny souls
seemed to fly
up over my mind
reminding me of
the vastness of life
I see a robin fishing for worms
unconcerned with my thoughts

Monday, August 19, 2019

poem of the day August 19

Humid stillness
Human stillness
The day is sleepy
The mind is sleepy
The emotions of all night storms
of past and present are at rest
All is quiet in the morning courtyard
The bird of life is in the nest

Sunday, August 18, 2019

poem of the day August 18

Almost dark
The night alive
with stale shadows
that suddenly scatter
Then I see the reflection of
an open door full of eternal light

Saturday, August 17, 2019

poem of the day August 17

I have been
thinking about
houses and homes
And if houses feel lucky
if they house a sweet home
But does a sweet home
need a lucky house
to be happy go lucky
I will ask this question
to the all knowing doors
who will answer by
opening or closing some more

Friday, August 16, 2019

poem of the day August 16

Sun spots on earth
are burning hate into humans
I hear especially the white un-tan-ables
are angry beyond recognition

Thursday, August 15, 2019

poem of the day August 15

You sat on my mind
Opened your flower
from outside in
drawing me deeper
into the bliss of belonging

Wednesday, August 14, 2019

poem of the day August 14

Somewhere
between time
lives a certain
type of immortality
So says the ant
to the flying bee
while feasting on flowers
full of sweet eternity

Tuesday, August 13, 2019

poem of the day August 13

The eyes look behind you
The eyes look in front
Some eyes see the sunrise
Some eyes see the inner light
There are eyes locked into pleasure
There are eyes locked into pain
For all eyes begin from deep within
to witness every human thing
from shining virtue to exciting sin

Monday, August 12, 2019

poem of the day August 12

A few sunflowers
dotting the garden
Tall stalks reaching
ever higher for heaven
bringing their idea of God
as I watch  sunrise surrounded
by sunflowers of perfection

Sunday, August 11, 2019

poem of the day August 11

A twinge of fall
rides an August night
on a windy cold carpet
reminding me of change
A change that begins as
innocent as a blacken lamb
seemingly lost within a very predicable road

Saturday, August 10, 2019

poem of the day August 10

The old hammer
at the flea market
looked like it had
bang a whole bunch
of nails in a lifetime
full of constant work
It was with a group
of other worn tools
for sale on a table
full of someone's past life
I wondered as I walked by
if anyone remembered the carpenter
who had once owned it,

Friday, August 9, 2019

poem of the day August 9

A walk within
the scared temple
takes no conscious steps
All that is needed
is the gentle breath
to complete an inner journey

Thursday, August 8, 2019

poem of the day August 8

Sun spots on earth
Bombs flying over
the other moon
The temple opens
But there are no doors
leading toward oneness
I only see the vultures
waiting patiently
for more long bones
suffering in the carnage

Wednesday, August 7, 2019

poem of the day August 7

Spider webs
full of early dew
sparkle in
the morning light
hypnotizing
many a bug
into the netherworld
of deadly tangles

Tuesday, August 6, 2019

poem of the day August 6

Ships in the night
The passing of a
stranger's smile
Perhaps a lone circle
from another world
A comet from a
distant universe
What is the real
understanding of time?

Monday, August 5, 2019

poem of the day August 5

The moon went to bed
The sun began to rise
It was an unbalanced seesaw
kept in check only by the simple
water found inside the ocean tides

Sunday, August 4, 2019

poem of the day August 4

The guns went on strike
and would not fire anymore
They got sick of following
the whims of their hate filled masters
As one they all refused to shoot
even the bullets and bombs joined in
It was only then the human madness stopped

Saturday, August 3, 2019

poem of the day August 3

The long dog days
are losing light
a few minutes
at a time
I feel the tide
before it turns
slack and lazy
Like being full
after a big meal
satisfied with the moment
yet still unconcerned with
each passing of time

Friday, August 2, 2019

poem of the day August 2

Digging a hole
for a holy tree
Deeper and deeper
inside of we
The shovel seems
sharp and eager
More alive with
each thrust into
our living flesh
full of all emotions
hard stones
soft sands
The digging goes on
Deeper and deeper
until the whole has been dug
It is then I wonder
who picks the holy tree
god or some idea of humanity

Thursday, August 1, 2019

poem of the day August 1

The grain of wood
A grain of sand
The difference
between less and more
Changes life on an open door

Wednesday, July 31, 2019

poem of the day July 31

Flowers in a vase
best capture
the fleeting
poignancy of beauty
The perfection of petals
in full bloom
move all beating hearts
toward fragile happiness
