poem of the day June 30

The wishes
were all long
in the tooth
Worn down
by many years
of the same desire
Yet in the dim candlelight
everything appeared perfect
as time sat down to dinner
in flames that flickered
full of yesterday's possibilities

poem of the day June 29

The fleeting life
of wild summer rose
too fragile to inhale
without a petal falling
Even more impossible
to bring inside
reminds me of
the temporary beauty
of all things traveling
the temporary ride

poem of the day June 28

I am going
to kiss the lips
of every single
soul of all those
countless lovers
who have loved
every time
a kiss goes round
I see people
in the halls of
one another
sitting on stars
next to tiny mirrors
thinking time
might be
the greatest
kiss of all

poem of the day June 27

A soft long day
in early summer
Light still strong
well into the evening
Good atmosphere
thick like butter
A good prelude
to a short June night

poem of the day June 26

The world
we imagine
is full of
so many
conscious
souls of
every kind
intertwined
in a matrix
defined by
a universe
expanding
without regard
to anything
remotely human
or manmade

poem of the day June 25

While walking
old dogs
on the worn path
the steps
often wobble
under the stress
of new tricks
But is that better
than getting
stuck in the beaten
ruts of familiarity

poem of the day June 24

When I was young
life was like a lovely
speckled belly toad
full of opens thoughts
for every type of road
but over time
those spots did vanish
as life grew to old
Now hopping round
all day long with only
a single point of view
I did not recognize
the toad I used to know

poem of the day June 23

I have to say
machines
have become
almost perfect
They do
a better job
Play a
better game
Solve complexities
better than
even the most
learned of men
But their lack
of emotions
devoid of soul
make them
unable to
understand
the imperfection of art

poem of the day June 22

Have you ever
thought about
how things travel
from here to there
only to end up on
your mantle or bed
next to other things
from there to here?
Does this phenomenon
of object travel
have natural roots
that fit into the logic
of universal flow?
Or have we
in our desire
changed some
law of karma?
Does even the
post office know?

poem of the day June 21

Change is
in every eye
The longest day
has arrived
The earthly tide
of which we’re tied
begins the slide
into darker skies
The longest light
has done its ride
I see the mountain
now from valley side

poem of the day June 20

Seeds come
from simple
Seeds come
from complex
both start
as virgins
on a night
circumspect
First comes
some light
then comes
some rain
Soil of morning
will sprout what remains

poem of the day June 19

Rocks traveling on glaciers
older than dinosaurs
dug out of  fields by busy farmers
still hang together in stone walls
sharing memories long overgrown with time

poem of the day June 18

A crisp chill
on a long day
waiting for
warm rays
The light around
but not yet bold
making summer
morning cold

poem of the day June 17

Meadow trees
of field and forest
living on the edge
of light and dark
Grow branches that
curl out to greet
an unbalanced sun
Seemingly defying
the laws of gravity
until the weight of
sunlight becomes
an unsustainable addiction

poem of the day June 16

Dark enough on
a summer night
for tiny lights to fly
These little stars
have come from Mars
to appear as fireflies
I see the smile on
the crescent moon
as we watch the lighted show
of candle flies on a ride
that blink before they glow

poem of the day June 15

Time opens
all that follows
Tides come in
until they go
Floating bubbles
on a sea of sails
where they land
be time fed gales

poem of the day June 14

What if Native Americans
had climbed into their canoes
to paddle across the Atlantic
in search of a new way
to get to the Spice Islands?
And when they had finally
landed on the continent of  Europe
thinking they were in the South Seas
Would they have called the savages
they encountered Indians?

poem of the day June 13

Shadows
have no light
to spare
ANYWHERE
Just a lot of dark
waiting behind
every single soul
facing the sun

poem of the day June 12

Early green
Yellow green
Young green
Fresh leaves
wet with rain
I see a small
almost slow
motion wind
bend some leaves
as if they are
waving hands
in a gentle shower

poem of the day June 11

The idea of team
comes from the seeds
of the primordial meat
Universal oneness has been overrun
by the separation into sides
Opposites turn the flames of desire
into a fireball of winners and losers
Cheering fans attract each other
with ideas used like invisible tribes
Weapons become more important
in this world of divided division
Gone are the teachings of wisdom
Oneness now has too many Gods
to satisfy the wanderlust of only winning
I am afraid of the eternal cost
as I come to bat with only a plowshare

poem of the day June 10

Little parts of big doors
Knobs and Hinges
work together
but wear each time
the pendulum swings
Open to closed
Closed to open
Eventual over time
the threshold becomes
a well stepped path
A  bridge between
opposite worlds
In to out
Out to in
separated by a big door
which only lasts as long
as all little parts work together

poem of the day June 9

The poplar creeped
again this year into
the meadow lawn
The sprouts grew long and far
until I mowed them down
I knew if I did not mow
the forest would be stacked
So this is my yearly poem
of how I whack the poplar back

poem of the day June 8

Something magical
about sprouting seeds
poking out of the earth
Hard to believe that
water and sun mixed
together in a bed of soil
is all that is needed for
a giant beanstalk to grow
beyond the waiting clouds

 poem of the day

Now a days
roads don't lead
to the same place
making them almost
impossible to fix
No one can even decide
which tool to use
which way to travel
or what to wear when
arguing about the weather
I see broken highways
full of lost highwaymen
Seems to me nothing can be fixed
until we fix ourselves

poem of the day June 6

The transition
from mask
to unmask
is an interesting
human journey
Today at the flea
the mask mandate is lifted
but many kept them on
while many others flaunted
their liberated baby faces
I sat on the fence
hanging my mask
off one ear cowboy style
so I could be in the saddle
like a good mirror image
ready at a moment's notice
bareback or covered
depending one's masking

poem of the day June 5

A dim moon
hangs on the
last light
of a long day
Night rides
above the trees
Both wait for
the change of tide

poem of the day June 4

OUCH!
The bugs are
so small
I can not see them
but they have
all passed through
the window screen
and are eating me
like an unwanted dream
All I can do is scratch the spot
where the tiny bug bites itch
and complain about how life is a bitch

poem of the day June 3

The house plants
have moved outside
They are on the steps
getting ready for summer camp
I see them all together
with rain drops on their leaves
chatting about how good
it feels to be wet all over

poem of the day June 2

A long morning
opens slowly on
a long bright day
in the land of summer sun
I am happy to see
the longs rays of light
are still walking up the mountain
as far as the eyes can see

poem of the day June 1

How to start
begins with
a beginning
How to art
begins before
a beginning
It is the difference
between a long line
and a circle of mind
