poem of the day July 26
Once again
thinking about
the way of dreams
The ones formed
just last night
Thought waves
arising from the
subconscious
deep sleep sea
So deep
night dreams are
often not remembered
but when they are
Some of these fleeting dreams
especially the strange
out of place ones
can overtake the sunrise

poem of the day July 17
An old antique dealer
many years ago
told me that antiques
are a type of fashion
that change with time
Years ago if you had
an antique original
with original patina
and you sanded off the original surface
it became a decorative antique
not worth much but easy to sell in its ruined state
as most people want their antiques to look new
I remember dealers at shows
who did this type of blasphemy
were laughed and ridiculed
as not serious antique dealers
But now Brimfield has become
an oasis of ruined antiques that are
openly advertised as "Repurposed Treasures"
eagerly snapped up at huge prices by a new breed of collector
not interested in original surface patina
but rather in antiques that have been purposely repurposed
causing the benchmark price of American antique furniture to plummet
I wonder what antique collectors in a hundred years will be collecting?
Will they go back to pristine purity
lamenting the fact so many antiques
had been ruined in the previous great repurposing
Or will the new antique fashion be repurposing the already repurposed?

poem of the day July 14
The daily parts
of each and every day
unfold as dawn
makes it way
up a lighted mountain
Where lunch is served
until rush hour
Then a giant snake
clogs the highway
till after dinner
when dusk takes
away the last hints
of a single sun
Allowing dreams
to pour out
of the Milky Way
that leave just
before I wake
into another dawn
reminding me
of the total sum
of familiar security

poem of the day July 11
The amount of light
given on
a given day
can be like
water on fire
weak Strong
strong Weak
These two frenemies
set the mood
as they dance around
each and everyday
Sometimes together
Other times at war
Making it hard
but not impossible
to navigate a safe course
through a long tumbling river
full of weird strange rocky lights

poem of the day July 4
The birthday of a nation
Independence Day
Another 4th of July
The old red white and blue
Uncle Sam is another year older
and is really starting
to show his age
A steady set of aches and pains
born of angry grievances
have taken root everywhere
Have infected the foundations
of everyday freedoms
that now show signs
of structural damage
where institutions
are now very far removed
from the founding fathers'
idea of liberty and justice for all

poem of the day July 2
My simple mind
does not understand
the evolution of nature
Sometimes it makes
absolutely no sense
For instance:
Why do honey bees
all die after they sting?
What exactly do
they get out of
immediately dying
once they attack?
Is it euphoric enlightenment?
Seems like a pretty
steep price to pay
for an instant flash
of uncontrolled emotion
