poem of the day July 31

A bridge forms
a connection
Spans a world
of no man's land
The growing branch
reaches over
wind and water
like a bird with
reluctant wings
The other side
accepts this tide
for the sake of
common ground
but all do fear
the big bad wolf
found in between
can crash the whole bridge down

poem of the day July 30

Master asked
only one question
to all those
breathing souls
"Does the difference
between inhale
and exhale
matter at all
to the oxygen
we breathe?"

poem of the day July 29

The eternal of
a magic wand
Lives inside
a wishing mind
To see this power
ride the wave
just swing the wand
up and down
in front of mirrors
Full of mirroring sound

poem of the day July 28

Dawn afdter a rain
The moist wet air
rises from the earth
all the way to
the tops of trees
I am watching
the thick womb atmosphere
cling to big green leaves
afraid to go any further
as the sun spreads clear
over the morning

poem of the day July 27

A resting log
has fallen
under a shade tree
in such a way
it welcomes
all weary travelers
providing them with
a front road seat
of great introspection

poem of the day July 26

Once again
thinking about
the way of dreams
The ones formed
just last night
Thought waves
arising from the
subconscious
deep sleep sea
So deep
night dreams are
often not remembered
but when they are
Some of these fleeting dreams
especially the strange
out of place ones
can overtake the sunrise

poem of the day July 25

The connection
of words and fingers
whether it be
Pens to paper
Type to computers
The words still come
falling out of the fingers
one after another
with connected creativity
blooming through the hands
fueled by the primordial thoughts
of a mortal mind

poem of the day July 24

Everybody revolves
around their own minds
They walk through circles
inside many tiny rooms
in moods that change
quick and instantly
mostly at doors
where the exit  entrance
pressure is at its greatest

poem of the day July 23

Sidewalks
on both sides
of the endless road
give traveling shoes
lots of opportunities
To take too many steps
in too many directions

poem of the day July 22

Watching the lives
that live inside
the cars that
always pass us by
A windowed glimpse
for a second we see
into another's destiny
but once they've passed
we just let them go
To where they drive
we do not know

poem of the day July 21

The lone gull looked
just like a miniature
bald eagle
I watched it fly
back and forth
over the salt pond
Wondering what
the gull thought
about looking like
a bald eagle
Did it even know
of such things?

poem of the day July 20

The old
red white buoy
in clear blue water
bobbed up
and down
with the tides
I watched from
the safety of the shore
marveling at the ease
of how effortlessly
the floating beacon
had mastered the sea
hoping the buoy
was a metaphor
for how America
does liberty

poem of the day July 19

The morning
finds the birds
mostly robins
hopping across
a soggy field
hunting worms
as the dawn
brings light
to another day

poem of the day July 18

seeing the sun shine
seeing the rain rain
this fire water branding
of a summer landscape
grows in both body and mind

poem of the day July 17

An old antique dealer
many years ago
told me that antiques
are a type of fashion
that change with time
Years ago if you had
an antique original
with original patina
and you sanded off the original surface
it became a decorative antique
not worth much but easy to sell in its ruined state
as most people want their antiques to look new
I remember dealers at shows
who did this type of blasphemy
were laughed and ridiculed
as not serious antique dealers
But now Brimfield has become
an oasis of ruined antiques that are
openly advertised as "Repurposed Treasures"
eagerly snapped up at huge prices by a new breed of collector
not interested in original surface patina
but rather in antiques that have been purposely repurposed
causing the benchmark price of American antique furniture to plummet
I wonder what antique collectors in a hundred years will be collecting?
Will they go back to pristine purity
lamenting the fact so many antiques
had been ruined in the previous great repurposing
Or will  the new antique fashion be repurposing the already repurposed?

poem of the day July 16

The id of
an island
looks out
over the water
with wide
primordial eyes
deep within the sub
of consciousness
Always watching for storms
in a sea surrounded
by an ocean seeking
the path of less resistance
How the waves
break over the island
depend on what
the id of the eye sees

poem of the day July 15

So thinking
about clovers
and all the bees
that love them
Are nurtured by them
Get life from them
No delusion of clover
Not like a swarm of humans
who look for luck'
within every leaf
Even I confess
I'm looking over
for a 4 leaf clover

poem of the day July 14

The daily parts
of each and every day
unfold as dawn
makes it way
up a lighted mountain
Where lunch is served
until rush hour
Then a giant snake
clogs  the highway
till after dinner
when dusk takes
away the last hints
of a single sun
Allowing dreams
to pour out
of the Milky Way
that leave just
before I wake
into another dawn
reminding me
of the total  sum
of familiar security

poem of the day July 13

The happy march
of daylilies
lining the roads
of  New England
welcome each traveler
with big orange smiles
that can frame one's mood
with little regard of
the weather

poem of the day July 12

The black and white
of wake and sleep
does get confused
inside of dreams
Like little islands
of bubbled thoughts
these eyes of time
within the twix
can color shade
the daily mix

poem of the day July 11

The amount of light
given on
a given day
can be like
water on fire
weak Strong
strong Weak
These two frenemies
set the mood
as they dance around
each and everyday
Sometimes together
Other times at war
Making it hard
but not impossible
to navigate a safe course
through a long tumbling river
full of weird strange rocky lights

poem of the day July 10

The rain
arrived with
reinforcements
to overwhelm
the dawn
The trees
stood there
stoically
without care
The birds
sung low
and muted
The dogs were
hunkered down
nowhere in sight
There was no escape
Even inside the air
heavy with wet
slipped into this poem

poem of the day July 9

The sun works its way
into every single second
bringing time into the wilderness
but then man in his tinkering
invented the sundial
and in his delusion separated
past from future
not knowing that
the only place time
shines is the present

poem of the day July 8

The timeless master
was very old
very happy
very full of life
with little signs of age
"What is your secret"
the disciple asked
The master looked
at him and smiled
"I always make sure
to leave a few obstacles untouched"

poem of the day July 7

The sun and rain
caravan is still
chasing each other
in wildly windy circles
Wet and humid
Hot and humid
are settled into a rhythm
Some like it
Some don't
thrive or suffer
the weather
reminds me
of constant set changing
in the grand play of life

poem of the day July 6

I have been wondering
if UFOs mostly live in dreams
where they do not need any kind
of super dooper alien space gear
No extra breath
No cumbersome suits
Only speed of light thoughts
designed to travel
the omnificent  minds
of deep sleeping Earthlings

poem of the day July 4

The birthday of a nation
Independence Day
Another 4th of July
The old red white and blue
Uncle Sam is another year older
and is really starting
to show his age
A steady set of aches and pains
born of angry grievances
have taken root everywhere
Have infected  the foundations
of everyday freedoms
that now show signs
of structural damage
where institutions
are now very far removed
from the founding fathers'
idea of liberty and justice for all

poem of the day July 3

A good rain
on a spinnie day
flaps around
a maple tree
The slap of leaves
appear to say
rain rain go away

poem of the day July 2

My simple mind
does not understand
the evolution of nature
Sometimes it makes
absolutely no sense
For instance:
Why do honey bees
all die after they sting?
What exactly do
they get out of
immediately dying
once they attack?
Is it euphoric enlightenment?
Seems like a pretty
steep price to pay
for an instant flash
of uncontrolled emotion

poem of the day July 1

The fleeting scent
of fleeting flowers
merge together
for one last stand
as I look out over
a sea of peonies
that have passed
their perfect prime
This poignancy of age
hits my senses
with a little touch
of summer sadness
