poem of the day April 14
I am wondering
while watching a forest
What a tree does
when it gets an itch
like when some bug
burrows deep into a trunk
to tickle the cambium
Do they somehow
bark out a whisper
to some waiting woodpecker
with some primordial giggle
perhaps hidden by the wind
or do they just stand stoic
with the other trees
branches sucking it up
remembering to stick to
the old itch saying
Once is too much
and a thousand times
is not enough
