poem of the day January 31

Last day of
the long month
Time to emerge
Crawl out of darkness
Shed January's skin
Deep winter
hibernation
is over
Time to tilt
the trees
forward
Stand in the sun
Warm days
Cold nights
More light
and maple syrup

poem of the day January 30

Our reflection
A sending back
A glimpse
A projection
of human light
Some shallow
Some deep
Both define a soul
The superficial  bounces
off the mirror
with a bolt of vanity
The introspective  penetrates
the fathomless mind
all the way to musing pool
Two eyes of thought
only able to see
the reflection sent
by the light of humanity

poem of the day January 29

The Way of Stairs
The Zen of run and rise
The gateway up or down
Ascending
Descending
A ladder slide
A bridge that spans
Floor to Floor
High or Low
But how to walk
a flight of stairs
is a question
to ask before one
enters the stairwell
and begins a journey
full of all possibilities
that are decided
by the direction of
the very first step

poem of the day January 28

The spirit of
a single house lamp
left on all night
illuminates
the darkness
unaware it is
the only beacon
in a wilderness
void of sun
It shines alone
A welcome comforter
like a lighthouse
on a rocky shore
bringing solace
to all souls inside
Yet when dawn
breaks into day
and the sun shines
through the window
the light of the lamp
seemingly disappears
Is no longer seen
until night returns
to a house made of dreams

poem of the day January 27

The truth of old sayings
Ignorance is bliss
Knowledge is key
Possession is 9/10
of the law
So in reality
a stupid thief
holding a smart key
can drive away in
a stolen car
completely euphoric
and way happier than we

poem of the day January 26 Snow to rain

Snow to rain
Rain to snow
A water wheel
over Warner Hill
Round and round
on a few degrees
The road does melt
The road does freeze
the circles joined
by  washing streams
like tires on a world of dreams

poem of the day January 25

A fragile flag sits
atop a nation
The wind waves
proud without direction
Stars and Stripes
Red White Blue
Old glory's glory
Sometimes
blowing left
Sometimes
blowing right
Always playing
with fire as it
rings around a revolution

poem of the day January 24

Follow directions
Never follow directions
A dividing line of life
found somewhere
in a disassembled box
filled by recipes of frustration
with no rhyme or reason
about who completes
the wheel of perfection
The road is littered by lives
of Those who do and fail
of Those who don't and fail
But all of us will someday somewhere face
which road to follow when baking cakes

poem of the day January 23

Trees ladeb
wet heavy snow
Shimmering
wind mists
weave a canopy
over the road
Entwined trees
shelter the journey
making the path
more intimate
Each thought
Each step
into the tunnel
begins to funnel
an understanding
of winter as a wonderland

poem of the day January 22

Finding
what you need
Somewhere
Everywhere
Nowhere
Here to there
the old road
littered in ideas
Abandoned by age
lined together
like feathers
Making it hard
to pick which guill
you really need
to define your story

poem of the day January 21

Steam within
a human teapot
explodes out
within a burst
of anger
It tastes terrible
and ruins every cup
large small
happy sad
frail or strong
does not matter
when the tea is wrong

poem of the day January 20

What to talk about
when you are
by yourself
Do you let
your guard down
and go to places
where truths hide?
Do you cut through
the opaque delusion
you have spun around
your own being body
The one that everyone sees
yet no one really knows
perhaps not even yourself
and explore things
for what they truly are?
Will you jump into
your deep lake
to find your own happiness?
Swim to the karma of your personal perfection?
Or will you just pretend to be you?
Dip your toes
facing toward the outer shore
to envy someone else's soul?
An illusion that looks pristine
very inviting like golden algae on an empty screen

poem of the day January 19

What happens if
The head lama dies
and they can't
find the reincarnation
of the new real next head lama
but instead they
pick someone
else by mistake
and the real next
head lama grows up
without any head lama training
Would he still be
the next real head lama?
or would  the training
make the new next lama head?

poem of the day January 18

No monkeys
on the loose
All tied up by
their human cousins
who cage them
like innocent criminals
in high security prisons
testing the latest
shade of vanity cream
only meant for
the twisted lips
that perfectly smile
the darkside of humanity

poem of the day January 17

"This solar system
only has a few
man made
objects flying
in outer space
The pride and
ingenuity
of this whole
human race
Seems so quaint
old fashioned
Very primitive"
the Milky Way does say
when compared to aliens
from worlds far away

poem of the day January 16

The rubber band
of dawn and dusk
stretches light
a few minutes
each day
The dark
contracts
and pulls
back night
All has changed
but the rubber band
as it plays
within the
string of time

poem of the day Januarey 15

What if
the rabbit
was not
in the rabbit hole?
What if the hole
was a magicians hat
full of tomfoolery?
with no hole or rabbit
Can you imagine that?
Would there still
be a hole in which to fall
to keep you away from being whole?
Was that all fortoled in the book of job?

poem of the day January 14

The sky was
below me
The mud
was above
I thought
the world
was crazy
like a mixed
wing dove
Upside down
was the reason
the hour glass
was formed
to turn
every egg
into what it
was born

poem of the day January 13

What if there
was a third wheel
One more than just
black and white
What would it be
light dark energy?
black white time?
dark light god?
white black mind?

poem of the day January 12

What happens
when you
water down
the water?
Is the diluted
distillation
half filled
half empty
Is the waterish
H2O squared
Would you have
to drink more
to get less
or would adding
more water
be nothing
but more water
would it be
the same water
only different?
I have to say
better to have
these questions
than no water

poem of the day January 11

The virgin wood from
the clearcut wilderness
of a once great forest
was made into
a huge house which sat
in the center of
the newly open field
The trees still standing on
the edge of civilization
looked everyday at
the huge timber frame
built from the wood
of ghost tree souls
The building rose
tall and strong
like a mausoleum
in honor old lost friends
Sometimes on a full moon
when time reflects time
and is able to bend
into unknown worlds
The Trees would all rattle
the temple long and hard
always without a wind

poem of the day January 10

A mind wired
to perfection
is perhaps
the most
perfect of all
imperfections
yet in striving to attain
the summit of
all things possible
is not aware
it has missed
most of the journey

poem of the day January 9

The dawn light
so faint
starts
like a dream
that begins
in the dark
of all things
sleeping
it slowly grows
over the horizon
sometimes wearing
clothes of color
found in the
break of day

poem of the day January 8

Unintended consequences
happen all the time
things never imagined
grown from good intentions
come to life on love filled vines
With this age old saga fresh in mind
I want you all to know
of the life of Caring Christy
Here's her story below
She was the most
caring person
in the whole wide world
who gave everything
to everyone
she touched in her field
Always making life
better for one and for all
the needy, the helpless
the short and the tall
But one day her son
who was the love of her life
stopped drinking water
all day and all night
Her son would not sip
not even a drop from
a glass or a sink
until he was so dehydrated
his life was on the brink
Christy loved him so deeply
she had to find something to do
yet every good deed she did
still did not break through
She prayed for a miracle
that Sunday at church
and when she awoke on Monday
her yard was covered in white
Her son ran out to play
as she watched  in delight
He began to eat all the snow
that had fallen that very day
and soon was hydrated
in every imaginable way
She had found her solution
and with her goodness she thought
she could make it much better
with some maple syrup of course
which he really liked so much
He said "Mom I want
to drink nothing else ever more"
And from that day on
her son did not bend
He never drank
anything without
sugar again

poem of the day January 7

Quiet as
a mouse
but how quiet
is a mouse
in a house?
How silent
can sound be?
The patter
of small feet
make it difficult
to sleep
The constant
rustle heard
within my ear
is very loud
sort of like
a gangsta
rodent rap
that does not stop
until a trap goes SNAP!

poem of the day January 6

A January thaw
Fog clouds reaching
down to obscure
a winter still
on vacation
I see the warm
smile on the
visitor's face
Atmosphere from
another place
chilled into
a shivering frown
in air that should
not be around

poem of the day January 5 The branch

The branch
of cold
and warm
where
the campsite
would have been
Somewhere
between heaven
and earth
where man
should have been
A long stream
straps everything
to anything that
has ever been
But who draws
the circle to connect
the reality of things?

poem of the day January 4

A bridge
over a river
straddles
the natural divide
between shores
separated by rapids
that carve their way
through time
But once
the span
The connection
has been
completed
very few lives
think of
the water
passing below

poem of the day January 3

A creaky door
Hinges rusted
from lack
of use
Pathways
forgotten
over time
Lost gateways
seldom opened
grow their own walls
The unremembered
cold and frozen shut
wait to be remembered

poem of the day January 2

Sweet sour
balance power
Each hour
spent chasing
tides from
both sides
of imperfect
perfection
by bands
of deception
This give
and take
makes for
lots of noise
except for
the sound of
hands clapping

poem of the day January 1 The ride

The ride
began
and ended
as it does
arbitrarily
No bearing
with the
natural rhythms
Just a big ball
of emotions
An abstraction
based on an
ordered up time
No meaning
No importance
except to one
narcissistic animal
self ordained as man
