poem of the day May 31

The pleasure
of a deep inhale
The filling
The emptying
Comes and goes
like Beatle breath
on a rubber soul

poem of the day May 30

"Is it better
to get
the time
right?
Or is
it better
to get
the timing
right?"
Tic asked Tok
But right before
Tok answered Tic
a crazy bird
burst out of
a crazy clock
and begin wailing
CUCKOO, CUCKOO CUCKOO

poem of the day May 29

I think when
the very tip
of a  tree branch
begins to move
up and down
on a still
windless dawn
it is yawning
as it awakens
from a deep sleep

poem of the day May 28

no one says
the river is wrong
it's just that water
has no form
is shaped by what
lies on the swim
toward the sea
by currents formed
in the path of reality

poem of the day May 27

The native plants
made one
last stand
atop of
pristine hill
Surrounded by
invasives
eager to
spread their will
The natives held
the pristine land
until the arrival
of a good intentioned
wandering man
Who on his way
up the hill
impulsively dug
a pretty flowered
invasive strain
and planted it
in the untouched
fertile ground
where it soon
spread all around
Now no longer
known as pristine hill
but just another mound
where native plants
were forced out
of their ground

poem of the day May 26

It was
a watered
down version
of water
making it
impossible
for even
an academic
like H2O
to comprehend
the undiluted
truth of itself

poem of the day May 25

They bought
the time
next to time
to try and
stem the tide
Sacrificed the useless
who willingly joined their side
Those endless men of holymen
believed they spoke to god
No choice for worlds devoid of girls
only maids turned into brides

poem of the day May 24

If we
had a way
to ride
dark lonely stars
in the big night sky
We could
line them
all up
into a row
Then swing
them around
into a circle
big enough
to lasso the love
of the Milky Way

poem of the day May 23

Once again
the sun and moon
light the way
for the journey
of all souls
approaching
the eternal fork
in the road
What to do?
Where to go?
The familiar
The unfamiliar
The art of choosing a life
in a sea of emotions
love, hate, fear, happiness
All fueled by waves
of inner waves
that cloud the path
of acting or reacting

poem of the day May 22

The sides
of a well
traveled road
The edges of
a familiar path
are often overlooked
by the need
to press forward
in the tunnel
of tunnel vision
Where the blinders
of needing to arrive
seldom allow for joy
of the journey

poem of the day May 21

Sleepy light
emerges slowly
Peeling back
the dark shades
of night
Removing even
the stubborn blackness
found lingering around
the gate of dawn
Allowing the day
to finally break open
into its shining glory
Where birds bark
and dogs sing

poem of the day May 19

the way
the air
drifts
at dusk
shapes
the sleep
of men
and trees

poem of the day May 18

so many
so few
so good
so bad
so happy
so sad
so in
so out
so new
so old
so human
so I'm told

poem of the day May 17

the paradoxical paradox
within the might of the mighty
saw the whim of the whimsical
ride the tide of the tidy
to the barn of a barnacle
where the lives of the living
each day of the daily
fight the hate of the haters
with the love of the lovely

poem of the day May 16

The house plants
are itching
to get outside
The dogs
are itching
from the flies
The cars
are itching
for a ride
And I am
itching for
the sunrise

poem of the day May 15

"What do you share
with the river
other than the water?"
The rain asked
as it effortlessly
fell into
the waiting sea
A few minutes later
a giant tsunami
rushed up to heaven
with a big knowing
ocean wide smile
that reached the rain
"Isn't the water enough
for the river of you and me?"

poem of the day May 14

The birds
were comparing
sunrise with sunset
"I like the dark into light
the way the dawn opens
into the day
The songs are more
uplifting" crowed the Rooster
"I like the day into night
the way dusk closes
into the dark
the songs are more
soulful" hooted  the owl
"I like them both the same
The songs of sunrise
and sunset both
are stages of time
in which to sing
Though I do have to admit
the worming is better
in the morning"
mused the Robin

poem of the day May 13

The poker hand
was played by 5
Dark and Light
Day and Night
the fifth was Fog
Four of them played  the same
Only one  had a different game
Ante up, the dealer dealt
from an old familiar deck
living within the house of cards
Day and Dark drew inverse hands
Thick faced Fog hid his fate
Only 2 of them did discard
Night and Light did not improve
both drew cards of sleeping fools
So when the bidding started
Night and Light did drop out
Leaving Day and Dark
both with inverse mirrored  hands
sitting across from Fog faced man
The betting went very high
almost to heaven
top shelf of the sky
Day and Dark sat in full houses
with inverse out of jacks and nines
both thinking they had won
the golden pot of  milky stew
But when the hands were all laid down
It was revealed poker Fog
had four of a kind
2 catch 22s
to win the day
by obscuring all
points of view

poem of the day May 11

It was a blue
marble sky
with puffy
white clouds
that poked
in and out
of heaven
It looked like genesis
The birth of life
as I watched it
swirl into
a primordial ball
and roll across
the horizon
like blue earth
rolling around milky sun

poem of the day May 10

Like all things fluid
time jingles
around itself
moving at
the speed of light
appearing
disappearing
into and out
of human consciousness
where mortal minds
full of self delusion
pretend to distort time
to their own fancy
sometimes
standing still
almost frozen
mired in
the past fog
of yesterday
only to instantly
leap forward
trapped in
a crystal  ball
of an imagined future
but seldom
living time
in the reality
of the waves
of each moment

poem of the day May 9

time offers
a path
in which
to live
reality
whether
it is wasted
or not

poem of the day May 8

Wink at night
Blink at day
the lens
of time
captures
the way
Dark to light
Light to dark
like a belly of sun
on the meadowlark

poem of the day May 7

Everyone of compassion
knew it was a travesty
soon to become a tragedy
when the greed meter
got mixed with
the grain meter
near the long boat
where they were
reloaded camels
already filled
with too much plenty
As the last camel
boarded the long boat
the boat tipped over
and sank deep
into the abyss
Exactly into
the same
hole of greed
where Midas had
drowned all
those years ago

poem of the day May 6

Looking at
the flowers
as they bloom
around the farm
Colors sway
in their towers
from daffodils
to fields of
dandelions
They march along
with tulips, hyacinths
and other blooming vines
The flowers rule the hours
with a power so divine

poem of the day May 5

The light
coming
out of
a candle
never changes
the flickering glow
coming from
its inner soul
Yet the power
of candle light
is profoundly changed
by the light
of its surroundings
In the middle
of a midday sun
the candle light
seems to fade and
is hard to see
In the middle
of a dark moonless night
the same candle light
easily lights the way
So remember
the immortal words
of Jack be Quick
as he jumped over
the candlestick
"The luminescence of change
is not coming from the candle flame"

poem of the day May 4

Sounds
of a city
blend with
the breath of
in and out
immersing
the loud night
The inhale
of wild cars
The exhale
of wild humans
Horns honking
Voices shouting
piercing the streets
always devoid
of silence
making it hard
to hear the natural
sounds of city birds

poem of the day May 3

A beard of green
grows over
the village face
fueled by time
Each day
Each blade
rises together
like an ocean tide
until the poor village
is overrun by
fields of high grass
The wild green beard
now in dire need of
a spring trim
patiently waits
for the Barber of the Ville

poem of the day May 2

Big Tom Turkey
walked
the middle
of the road
And strut
his stuff
in full
regalia gold
None of
his amore
was directed
at me
as he
stood there
primping for
girl turkey

poem of the day May 1

A cave
so deep
it never sees
a sunrise
There dark
moist thoughts
within souls
barren of light
swim blindly
Shadowless
along trenches
full of blackness
Eager to belong
to something
illuminating
the marching
brainwashed
river mob
finally reaches
the entrance
Where the spirit
of all lightless caves
shouts a warning
"When in
the valley of light
Beware of
the power
of shining
charismatic
luminescence
