poem of the day July 31

the road
to fairyland
was lined with
so much blooming
Queen Anne's lace
I had a hard time
spotting the white rabbit
as he hopped around
in search of wild carrots

poem of the day July 30

Shallow or deep
the shovel digs
only like Zen
into the earth
Where it ends
depends on
the mortal mind
of the digger

poem of the day July 28

Building abilities
into accomplishments
begin one step
at a time
by recognizing
each baby brick
of your unique foundation
All of us are
born with natural skills
Fledgling stepping stones
if practiced year after year
with the determination
of unwavering perseverance
will empower your soul
to get the job done

poem of the day July 29

The new fad
puzzle game
called Soems
Writing poems
using lines
from songs
then naming
those songs
was sweeping
across America
and on its way to
becoming a
national obsession
In case any of
you missed it
Here is today's
Soem

On the eve of destruction
A rainy night in Georgia
She wore an itsy bitsy teenie weenie yellow polka dot bikini
She would meet her connection
sitting on the dock of the bay
It was a hard day's night
She was just seventeen
and a homecoming queen
I knew that very instant she meant to do me harm
Those were the days my friend
So sing another song boy this one has grown old and bitter
We have to say goodbye for the summer
Think i'll pack it in and buy a pickup drive it down to LA
Welcome to the Hotel California, what a lovely place, what a lovely face

poem of the day July 27

a late dusk
an early dawn
ring darkness
like bookends
like lighthouses
frame a midsummer
night dream
where the end
and beginning
of blackness is
surrounded by
the longing light
of summertime

 poem of the day

The amazing
canopies of
New England
forest woodland
full of wild trees
were cleared meadows
one hundred years ago
All that human toil has
mostly disappeared
as the forest
has reappeared
with a grand army
able to overwhelm
the will of manoe

poem of the day July 25 it is strange

it is strange
in new rain
that a plain
yellow mane
on a large train
plays games
of change
when the name
still remains
the same
full of gain
seeking fame
so insane
so vain
so yellow mane

poem of the day July 24 The indigo bunty

The indigo bunting
was so beautiful
flying over the meadow
The sparrow hawk
was so beautiful
flying over the meadow
yet i felt sad
to be within this
poignant moment
of nature's beauty

poem of the day July 22

Everybody thought
tunnels were
only underground
Artificial subterranean
man made passages
forged through
mountains and rivers
for the good of humanity
Designed to ease the burdens
of the inhospitable
Never once did
anyone think
tunnels could
exist without
the physical walls
that surround them
But here we are
in a brave new world
navigating the wild currents
of social media
Where the airwaves
The lifeways are
constantly being
filled  with
like minded ideas
designed to amplify
those ideas into
thick mental impregnable walls
designed to keep us
in tribes separated
from each other
in tunnel visions
of our own making

poem of the day July 21

light inside
light outside
so much light
too much light
too much sometimes
to see the differences
that separate
inside light
from outside light
in ways known
and unknown
to anyone but
the light of
the almighty sun

poem of the day July 20

the ideas
come and go
muttering minds
like waves
churns a beach
sometimes soft
sometimes hard
sometimes old
sometimes new
perhaps you've
caught an idea or two

poem of the day July 19

the trees
seem soft
this morning
no resistance
to a calm wind
leaves fluttering
branches waving
in slow motion
greeting peace
waiting for sun

poem of the day July 18

A bear
Two deer
Three turkeys
and a porcupine
in a spruce tree
lots of critters
I did see
made me think
of a Christmas tree

poem of the day July 17

The evolution
is the revolution
The constant change
at every second
evolving body & mind
Turning micro against macro
into the de facto
law of the land
a scary thing
if the de Jure
relies on judges
instead of juries

poem of the day July 16

Maximizing
for success
The need
to get everything
out of something
Don't leave
anything behind
Pick them all
Maximise the potential
Words I have heard
over and over again
on popular talk shows
spouting out of the lips of celebrity
self help gurus from
all walks of life
Why is that a good thing
to maximize  everything?
To take more than you need
To take the very last one
How does that
help anybody but you?
Wouldn't it be better
just to take enough
leave something
for others
like a friendship circle
Why I am even guilty
I just threw away a long
forgotten rotting
refrigerator experiment
A once delicious
moldy breaded chicken
even the dogs would not eat
Could have fed two people

poem of the day July 15

What if
you dropped
into a body
but it wasn't
your body
with none
of your
imperfections
And all of
a sudden
you were
in a new
perfect body
that took away
the familiar
patterns
of a lifetime
Would
you miss
your old
imperfections?

poem of the day July 14

Does the inner light
only light
the worn
familiar road?
Do all fears
remain in darkness
never to see
the gleam of day?
I guess a lot
depends on
which way
the inner light
shines as
it follows
the already
lite road

poem of the day July 13

floating around
this seesaw day
up and down
wet and dry
sun and shade
inside outside
the many ways
we do engage
the splendors
of a summer day

poem of the day July 12

I read that
military conflict
in the near
future is
going to be
fought by
AI robots
What exactly
would that do
except kill all
the robots?
Then I read
it again
and AHH!
I get it
The light bulb
has gone off
Of course
it is brillant
War might be
the only way
to get rid
of artificial intelligence
by having them
fight each other
to the death
and save us humans
so we can get
back to
the real wars
of killing
each other
rather than fighting
what would be
losing battles against
the much smarter
evolving machines

poem of the day July 11

Keeping track
of all
things
possible
has an
impossible
quality of
too many
possibilities
Making it
impossible
to keep
track of
all things
possible
especially
for those
who dwell
in possibilities

poem of the day July 10

I am
afraid
of sharks
Maybe you
are too?
Shark Week
has my
irrational fear
on super edge
even though
I am miles
from the sea
I am really scared
knowing the reach of sharks
seem to have no limits
I am very frightened
Like what if I have
a dream where
I'm dangling my legs
on a surfboard
my sister has
somehow talked
me into riding
when a big white shark
comes out of nowhere
and bites me in two
that would be a nightmare

poem of the day July 9

It was a happy hour
at the heavenly cafe
Ben, George &Tom
were in their usual seats
around the old red white & blue
celestial drinking table
Imbibing some good
godsent moonshine
with a bunch of
other long lost patriots
The heavenly happy hour band
were jamming set up on a nearby cloud
playing a slow but jazzy
Star Spangled Banner cover
The Founding Fathers
were sheets to the wind
reminiscing about
the good old days
of the American Revolution
"I remember signing that
declaration"
"Me too"
"You wrote that Tom"
"Yes, we all had a hand"
"A grand declaration"
George held out his glass
"Three cheers for democracy
May it never end"
"Here! Here! Here!"
"No to Tyrants"
"No to Dictators"
"No to Kings"
Just then a newly arrived soul
walking by overheard them
"Haven't you all heard?"
"Heard what?" 84 year old Ben asked
"The Supreme Court has
just ruled that the president
is now above the law"
The president is above the law?"
"That is impossible"
"How can that be"
"That would make him a king"
"Are they mad?"
"It was the whole reason we fought the revolution"

poem of the day July 8

What happens
when the floor
of an old house
is recycled into
the dreams
of a new house?
Do the footprints
of time
well worn
into aged boards
leave traces
of past lives
for a new generation
Or do the planks
keep their secrets
buried within
their ancient knots?

poem of the day July 7

The weather drips
hot and humid
day after day
like a steamy
invisible haze
penetrating deep
into sentient bones
The tropics
have invaded
the great state
of Vermont
Even the dogs
are sweating

poem of the day July 6

Lovely lilies
line the road
Orange blooms
glow like gold
Waving flowers
sway up & down
greeting those
on drive arounds

poem of the day July 5

How independent
can independence be
in a world without democracy
How much of this independence
is dependant on the independence
of the American revolution
and its Constitution
Where all those freedoms
were so ingrained
over centuries
by the blood and sweat
of common men
Millions of hearts & minds
full of justice & liberty
formed by a revolution
where all are equal
in the land of the free
No more tyrants
No more kings
No more worship
of powerful things
Until 6 dark souls
in big black robes
decided for all
The president king
is above the law

poem of the day July 4

Where
to keep
your dreams
from getting
lost within
your mind
of daily grind
is a constant battle
of imagination
versus circumstance
The trick is to understand
the possibility of all
things possible
is always possible

poem of the day July 3

The power
of stars
The great
illuminators
of light
Allowing
all things
possible
Even the fires
that burn
within the
trivial souls
of mice and men

poem of the day July 2

Pardon me boy
I don't want to go
to prison
Pardon me boy
cause no president
can be a felon
Pardon me boy
cause now I am
above the law
Pardon me boy
and I'll give the flag
to Samual Alito
whose wife
made his dress
so he can look
at his best
Pardon me boy
cause if you don't
I will arrest you
and when I get in
I'll be commander & king
So pardon me boy
then I can pardon
all my cronies
who are in jail
on fake charges
deemed phony
So pardon me boy

poem of the day July 1

There were
deadline people
There were
deadpan wingers
There were
clothesline kids
There were
frypan sinners
There were
online trollers
There were
peterpan bingers
They were
many things
but few
were winners
