poem of the day April 19

On the Grand Mall
with Jefferson, Lincoln
and Washington
who was looking
rather like a lonely obelisk
Abe was holding court
to a bunch of Japanese tourists
who filled the stairs
like well dressed movie stars
watching Marine 1 fly over
the ghosts of war
before landing on the White house lawn
Off in the distance
I entered the cabin
of the DC 3 and
flew down to see
the Hope Diamond
that was looking kind of forlorn
I asked her why and she said to me
"Cause everything is free
except for our Liberty"
